I have been visiting the Applegarth for over ten years, staying about four times a year. It is honestly a home from home. Michelle, Kevin, Suzanne & Alan are the most amazing hosts - nothing is ever too much. I have stayed in a number of the rooms, and they are all beautifully decorated and spotless. They are regularly redecorated and updated and are always totally welcoming. The food has always been good but the new chef, Ross, has raised it to the next level. On my latest visit dinner was exceptional with great flavours and exquisite presentation. Over two nights I sampled crab cake, trout, cod and ragu. It was all totally delicious and there were other dishes that I would have loved to try if I had stayed another night. My elderly mother who lives locally always joins me for dinner and is always treated with so much kindness and offered starters as mains or reduced portions to suit her appetite. Breakfast is also amazing with a great range of choice and always delicious. I am planning my next stay in July and can't wait.

Kevin and Michelle are excellent hosts, and no request is too much trouble. The food is amazing, and Ross, the chef, makes inspiring dishes, which are a delight. Excellent location with ample parking and beautiful views. Choice of room to suit makes the USP touch.

This is the most beautiful place to stay. From the moment we stepped inside we felt welcome and very comfortable. We were greeted by Kevin and Michelle who are really lovely people who are very pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was exquisite with everything you could need. The housekeeping was the best we have ever experienced. We have stayed in many good hotels but there is usually something that could be improved but Applegarth is absolutely perfect and in our opinion is 5 star plus. We used the restaurant for breakfast which had a great choice and the lovely young lady who served was lovely and super efficient. This is an exceptional family run hotel and if you are looking for a perfect place to stay which is ideally situated in the lakes you should book now. We are definitely going back and recommending to everyone.

Everything. The hotel suite was beautiful. Staff amazing polite and helpful. The suite itself exceeded our expectations. Spoilt rotten with a very comfy large bed, beautiful bathroom with jacuzzi bath and rainforest shower, two patio areas and a hot tub. Beautifully decorated and we didn't want to come home. Thank you for your hospitality Kevin. We will definitely return.

The hotel is really well looked after and our ‘luxury room’ was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a couple of nice seats. A great shower and bath in the large en-suite. Lovely view across Windermere with mountains in the background. Well stocked bar and breakfast / dining room has a great view. Didn’t eat in as breakfast was pretty average. Friendly staff but surprised we were asked to sign long terms and conditions form on arrival. The hotel is down a road behind the high street so access to some great shops, cafes and restaurants in the town. Private, free parking down the hill behind the hotel and a good fitness test on the way back up if you’re staying on the first or second floors. The sign outside says 5* but didn’t meet my expectations in comparison to other 5* hotels at similar prices. The bar was open until 10pm but closed before 9 on two nights while we were there and room service stops at 9. The tv has a few Freeview channels and there’s a minimal supply of drinks and toiletries. The safe was just big enough to get a passport or a phone in it.

I travelled to Applegarth with my daughter for a mini break. When we entered Applegarth Villa we were both very impressed. The reception and stair case had beautiful stain glass windows and the decor was very welcoming, we could even hear a grandfather clock chiming softly in the bar area. Kevin and Michelle were very wecoming and friendly and Michelle explained all we needed to know about our room. Our room was lovely very clean with nice views, we had a king size bed with a comfy mattress and pillows, dressing gowns and slippers too. Breakfast was served in a nice bright room with plush chairs and booths. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We only had a drink in the bar but that was very impressive too with the plush chairs, open fireplace and very relaxing. We didn't want to leave Applegarth and really enjoyed our break I think we will return again and will definitely recommned a stay here.

Fantastic welcome, friendly staff and a real family feel about the place. The suites were the height of luxury and fantastically appointed, with mood lighting, very high tech spec and an amazing hot tub balcony overlooking the Lakeland fells. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the service and quality of food was exceptional. I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough for a couples getaway in a lovely part of the world

Fantastic family run Hotel! We stayed in Potter suite, our suite was spotlessly clean and luxurious. On our arrival Alan was very welcoming and made us feel relaxed. We booked dinner in the Apple restaurant. starters - Pan fried trout, Ramen, Main - Cumbrian Lamb Rump with Garlic Chunky chips, Dessert - Cumbrian Cheese Slate With a Sel ection of Cartmel Valley smoked brie, black dub blue, Appleby Blencathra, damson Chutney and a Selection of biscuits. the Presentation of the food was amazing.... Ross has a real talent! Our evening was very relaxing and first class service from Suzanne and Kevin. Breakfast was cooked to order and very tasty. Thank you for a lovely stay, see you soon.

We had a brilliant stay in this beautiful hotel and surroundings. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout. Amazing food, a real taste of luxury. We will be back.
