ジ オールド コート ホテル(The Old Court Hotel)

This is an old building, possibly originally an inn, with a large courtyard around the back, which is how you enter. From start to finish, the staff were friendly and helpful. The key to the room was a large old fashioned metal key, which is a good indication of the hotel as a whole. The wall paper looked as though it had been put up by the owners, and the entire room had a "spare room we rent out" feel to it which I had no problem with. I could see the roundabouts (2 of them) from my window but they were far away enough I couldn't hear them even with my window open. It is, however, very difficult to get across to the hotel if you come in by bus. The roads are very busy. I ate in the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. I saw others sitting outside in the courtyard having a beer. I had to leave Witney early and the owner was good enough to pack up my breakfast sandwich for me. I only have 2 complaints. The pillows absolutely should be replaced. They are as flat as pancakes. And the showers should be scrubbed more often as there is indeed some mould in a few places. Not a lot, but there shouldn't be any. The water pressure though was really good!

Sadly for us the hotel was probably the worst we've ever stayed at. It was awful. In the first room we were given there was no wardrobe, no window, the shower was built into the corner of the room with not even a shelf for soap, in fact the complimentary shower gel was left on the skirting board! There were no shelves in the room, the only place to put your things was literally in a hay trough. There was a single bracket on the wall with 3 wire coathangers so we assume this was meant to be our wardrobe? When we refused the room we were told it was the only room they had available so we requested a refund. They did find us another room but pointed out that the room we were initally offered was the one associated with breaks paid for with gift vouchers. We had in fact paid an additional £181 on top of the voucher value £100 in order to have a three night break with breakfast. (a total cost of £281 for 3 nights) This was booked 6 months ago, for a special birthday weekend away. The room we ended up in had mould in the bathroom and thick dust everywhere. The (paper thin) towels had footprints and dirty marks on. On the plus side, the bed was huge & comfy!!! The main hotel stank, The carpets in the corridors are filthy and worn out. The fire door was so rotten that you could see to the outside through the hole in it. The hotel claims to have a picnic area with views and a terrace. What it actually has are tables in a courtyard area (pretty much in the car park) It is also on a very busy roundabout which ought to be mentioned in its write up. The food wasn't very good either. The staff, although friendly, seem so shy they hardly speak. One other couple we met complained of having raw sewage all over their bathroom floor after flushing the toilet. I wouldn't leave a review like this if it wasn't valid. I wish I had been warned.

This place it ok. The rooms are quite tired and ours had a noisy fan outside the window and a light that flashed on the ceiling (smoke alarm I assume) that was quite distracting when trying to get to sleep. I suppose it wasn’t expensive, so ok for one night.

Really not sure where to begin with his review. I'll try and pick the positives out 1st. Bed was comfortable, WiFi was fast and I was able to work in the hotel. Arrived on a Monday for a 4 night stay. 1st impressions at check in was the overwhelming smell of curry from the Nepalese restaurant. Dining area and the bar looked very shabby and not very inviting. Checked in and was taken to room 10. I work away every week so I am used to hotel rooms, I can honestly say I've never stayed in a room so disgusting as this after 1997 when I had an unfortunate stay in a b and b in Blackpool. The room was tiny for a double. Window sill, skirting boards and the carpet was disgusting. The bathroom and shower had mould all over the tiles and sealant. The TV was so small I needed my glasses. Hung my clothes up in a wardrobe which stunk of foist. Tried to spray aftershave to mask the smell but the outcome was I couldn't possibly wear these clothes the next day due to the smell which had clung to them. Asked to change rooms and I was told there was none available. After a long drive I really couldn't be looking for another hotel and opted to eat in the Nepalese restaurant in the hotel. I've been to Nepal so I was looking forward to seeing something different on the menu. Couldn't see anything Nepalese apart from most Indian dishes had a prefix stating "Nepalese style". Tried to take food to thw room and was told it was against hotel policy (although I couldn't see for the life of me why) so i stayed in the bar. Draught beer had ran out. The restaurant and bar looked like my grannies sitting room in some places, all of the furniture looked 2nd hand and mis matched, large settees seemed dumped in the place, decorated with old throws and completely unappealing. Toilets were absolutely remisan of a Nepalese tea house in the wilds of the himalayas, no toilet paper, which is pretty essential after a curry and they were absolutely filthy. The people were nice. Obviously a Nepalese Gurkha family judging by the military plaques and I'm sure they have been great servants for the British Empire. However hoteliers and restaurantiers they are NOT. Checked out a day early, couldn't handle anymore and went 8 miles to the holiday inn at peartree. Definitely won't be back. Avoid Avoid Avoid!

Where to Start? I had the suite (apparently), and it was a bit grim. Light bulbs not working, raw plaster on the walls, enormous spa bath which takes years to fill with awful water system. Strange and creamy o furniture. Whole place smells like fabreze, dodgy doors which don’t shut, weird door in bathroom which goes straight outside. Dirty and odd decorations throughout room! Probably won’t bother with breakfast as don’t really trust it!

Under new management! I've been staying here off and on for a few years. Not the best hotel but as an ex military man I liked to support the gurkha family that ran the hotel even though some standards were borderline. The food was good and the welcome always very warm. New owners... Absolutely no idea and for sure no experience in the hospitality industry. Nepalese again... But not a chance this will succeed. Now no bar and resteraunt as that was the only positive here. Avoid at all cost.. I'll never stay here again!

Convenient for town centre. Warm and comfortable. If you go out for the day you will loose your parking space. Park on Halfords till a space becomes available.
