There were 6 of us for a business lunch earlier this week. Gluten free food had me in the bathroom being ill before our lunch was over. I am still unwell several days later. No apology, gave small discount. Assured me food was ok, clearly it was not. I have coeliac disease and am very sensitive to gluten. My colleague had an insect in her ice cream. Health and safety hazard in The Orangery, bunches of grapes dropping to the floor from overhead vine. Waitress did nothing to clear them up even after we pointed it out. We cleaned it up with a serviette and discovered the floor was filthy. Reported them to Environmental Health. None of us would ever go here again.
Stayed for 2 nights for a wedding. Positives. We got a great deal and check in was easy and smooth. Reception staff were very friendly at check in. We had an evening meal and it was ok. Bar area was lovely. Weather was rubbish so didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful grounds which was a shame. Cons Room was clean but very tired. As we were attending a wedding so getting ready was a bit rubbish as no mirror over dressing table area. I did check friends rooms and they had mirrors over dressing table, we had a blank wall. So couldn’t dry hair etc with a mirror. The tall mirror had no plug sockets near enough to use so looked like a bag of rags from the neck up ! Biggest pain was after our first morning we were locked out of our room ! Some a lot of guests. All having to get room cards re programmed. Staff blamed it on previous check in staff! 2nd morning same thing. Had breakfast went back to room and locked out again ! This time I joined the queue of guests with the same issue and the reception staff blamed a computer error ! This needs sorting as my mother in law who is disabled physically couldn’t keep going back and forth for a new key card. No pink gin in any of the bars. Breakfast was nice Coffee at breakfast was good (I did put an extra shot of espresso in mine as I never trust machines.
Having read the reviews on this site after we had booked to stay in this hotel, I was quite concerned. However, we do need to remember that this hotel is a grade 2 listed former coaching house and although it may need a little bit of TLC, our room was clean, our breakfast was lovely and the staff were helpful. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel which allows you to take a bus into Bristol. We caught the Y1 bus and it cost £3.80 for a return ticket. The buses run about every half an hour and the last return bus is after 10pm. There is a schedule showing the bus times at the bus stop.
