Enjoy your time in Westmeath relaxing at our centrally located and characterful rural farmhouse - the perfect place to base while you reconnect with friends and family, explore Ireland's heritage with days trips, visit the nearby equestrian centres of Mullingar and Cavan or simply relax nearer home, indulging in our local biodiversity and Midland villages. Our lovingly restored 17th century farmhouse boasts 6 inviting bedrooms, including 4 king beds; 2 also with child beds, a twin bedroom, and 2 bunk beds. We have 3 beautifully fitted and luxuriously stocked bathrooms and 1 downstairs open shower/wet room to enjoy. Around the house are plenty of outside spaces for morning coffee or sundowners looking towards the west over the river. A large sitting room with a fireplace and wood burner provides the perfect retreat when a cosy evening is needed. The farm has nearly a mile of river bank which is home to a large kingfisher population, and provides a quiet and safe shelter for a cranary, otters and mink among many other wildlife. The River Inny also crosses the historic Royal Canal with its Greenway offering a flat accessible path for walkers, runners and cyclists across the beautiful risen bogland which borders the farm. Welcome to the Barley Harbor Lodge.We are a Swiss couple and have been living in Newtowncashel on Lough Ree for several years.With the Barley Harbor Lodge we offer you the opportunity to get to know this pristine area in the heart of Ireland. There is a lot to discover. Here the pub is still heated with locally cut peat in the open fireplace and the locals are always open for a chat over a pint of Guinness or a glass of Irish whiskey.The house is in a very quiet location and is a 3-minute walk from the picturesque Barley Harbor on Lough Ree. Fishing, walking, cycling (signposted paths off the main road), golfing or just relaxing in the 2500 m2 garden around the house is possible. The lodge was built in 2003 in a typical Irish style with a stone facade and has high-quality furnishings. In the evening they enjoy the cozy warmth of the blazing fire in the fireplace. Comfortably read a book or watch a movie on the 32 inch flat screen TV. In addition to the Irish channels, you can also receive Swiss SF1, SF2 etc. as well as German channels such as ARD, ZDF, Pro7, RTL, VOX, Sat1 and many more. The house is also heated with central heating. All 3 bedrooms have double beds. There are two bathrooms available. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, filter coffee machine, ceramic hob / oven and washing machine. From the large oak dining table for 6 people you have a direct view of the well-tended garden. Due to its central location in the heart of Ireland, day trips to almost all of Ireland's famous sights are possible. Be it the Cliffs of Moher, a stroll through Galway, a drive through the charming landscape of Connemara National Park. Even an excursion to the famous Giants Causeway is possible. In an hour you can reach various beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. We have known Ireland for over 30 years and are happy to share our insider tips for excursions and sights with you. Dublin Airport is only 90 minutes away. Of course, the region is also very well known among anglers. For example, the World Championships in pike fishing take place on Lough Ree every spring. Nowhere is the chance for a meter of pike as great as here. In addition, the Lough Ree is no longer an insider tip for wild trout / brown trouts even among Irish. The May Flies hatch attracts anglers from all over the world to Lough Ree every year in May and June to experience the unique spectacle and the chance of a major brown trout. Of course, the Egli / Perch anglers are not neglected here either. This predatory fish is almost not fished by the Irish and the stocks in the lake or the tributaries are accordingly large.If you want to experience something different, you should take a trip on a fishing charter boat for deep-sea fishing on the Atlantic.
