ダーラムからバスに乗って北へ向かうと、ニューカッスルはダーラム村に比べると大きな街です。ダーラム駅では、ニューカッスルに夕食に行く学生たちにも会いました。電車は10分ほどで到着しました。ここで私は実際に城壁、ハドリアヌスの長城を見ました。実際、これはローマ帝国の英国の最北端の境界であり、どちらも北からの侵略を防御していました。タイン川沿いに西から東へ海への入り口があります。当時、イングランド王はここに木製の尖塔の主な建物と土の外壁からなるいくつかの城を建てました。新しい城がニューカッスルの名前の由来です。
