Hotel Review: A Mixed Bag – Great Location, But Sleep Was Elusive
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
My stay at this hotel was a true mix of positives and one significant negative that ultimately defined the experience.
The Good:
· Excellent Location: This is the hotel's strongest asset. It's conveniently located just 15 minutes from Beijing West Railway Station and is also very close to the embassy district. For travelers needing access to transport or official business, it's ideal.
· Dining Options Galore: The surrounding area is fantastic for food. You'll find a wide variety of restaurants, from local eateries to international options, all within easy walking distance.
· Comfortable Room: The bed itself was soft and comfortable, providing a good base for relaxation in the room.
· Great Value: It is undeniably an affordable option in a prime area, which is a major plus for budget-conscious travelers.
The Bad (The Noise Issue):
Unfortunately, the noise insulation was extremely poor, severely impacting my sleep.
· Thin Walls & Doors: Every time a neighbor closed their door, it echoed through the corridor into the room. You could clearly hear people walking or dragging their feet in the hallways.
· Corridor Carpeting: Despite there being a lot of carpet in the corridors, it did nothing to dampen sound. The noise traveled easily.
· Disturbing Incident: One night, a neighboring room's door was left unlocked, and its electronic lock mechanism beeped incessantly. I had to get up and close it myself to stop the noise, which was very disruptive.
Bottom Line:
This hotel is a classic case of ”you get what you pay for.” If you are looking for an affordable stay in a super-convenient location with great food options and plan to be out all day and are a very heavy sleeper, it can work.
However, if a good night's sleep is a priority, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere or requesting the quietest possible room (away from elevators and ice machines). The noise levels make it difficult to recommend for light sleepers or business travelers needing proper rest.
Recently, I had the chance to stay at Beijing 21st Century Hotel. The moment I walked in, I felt transported back to a Japanese hotel from the late Showa and early Heisei era. The lobby exudes a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, and the Japanese-speaking staff made check-in effortless.
The rooms are cozy but fully equipped. The integrated Japanese-style bathroom features a bathtub, bidet toilet, and air purifier—perfect for soaking away the fatigue of a long day. From the window, I could catch glimpses of the quiet surrounding streets, and at night, the lights along the nearby Liangma River were so inviting that I went for an evening stroll.
The hotel is located near the Japanese Embassy and an area full of Japanese restaurants, so enjoying authentic meals is convenient. For shopping and leisure, Blue Harbour is nearby, and a stroll along the river can easily fill half a day. For travelers seeking a quiet retreat in Beijing with a touch of Japanese nostalgia, this hotel is a wonderful choice.
The address is wrong so you need to use trip’s map to find hotel. In our case we spent 40 minutes under the heat and with big bags to figure it out all out. The place is only for one night. There is a strong smell of smoking everywhere. Otherwise it is okay if you have a flight from PEK airport
