ガステハウス エシコ(Gästehaus Ethiko)

This hotel is absolutely charming. I adore the style. My room was beautifully decorated, and I particularly loved the door. The room had a sweet little balcony with beautiful flowers, which I really would have enjoyed had it not been such a short visit (a one night stay following the Oberammergau play, and a 9am start the following day to travel home). The bed was comfortable and the pillow and quilt were both of a good thickness. En suite bathroom was small but perfectly adequate. The room itself (room 5) was a good size. I had a peaceful night’s sleep and wasn’t disturbed by outside noise or noise from other guests. Breakfast in the morning was adequate - not a huge selection, but perfectly adequate. Your standard breakfast. There weren’t any hot items, so I had some seeded bread rolls with ham and cheese. The bread was absolutely delicious. It was warmed too. So good! There was also a Welsh lady doll in the breakfast room, which of course I loved. :) The lady at reception was a bit surly and not very welcoming. Not once did I see her smile. But all in all a great stay, and I’d happily stay here again.

I was a little nervous booking a stay at a guest house in a small village halfway across the world, but this was probably the best decision I made on the trip. The old man who greeted us and showed us around was lovely, the rooms at the Alpenrose house had an unbeatable view of the monastery, and we woke up every morning to the wonderful rustic sound of the cow bells for the small herd stationed in the field behind us. There is no A/C but plenty of windows, and even on the top floor in July it was just fine. It's just 10 minutes up to Linderhof and a few more down to Oberammergau. Though I enjoyed the quiet of Ettal and the monastery in the evenings the most. The little cafe nearby is great (and also has all the small necessities a traveler may need, but forget at home.) The nearby restaurant across from the monastery is good, but service is slow so don't stop by if you are in a hurry on towards your next destination.

Thank you for the amazing experience in Ettal. Breakfast was amazing with the best homemade morning bread we have ever had! Great location for a holiday with hikes, food, an Abbey and three castles nearby - stayed in the off season and had the WHOLE place to ourself. Thank you!

The hotel is in a very central location close to the famous Ettal abbey. Its rooms are clean and spacious. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient. A very good breakfast is served. In the neighbourhood there are several restaurants. The hotel is very close to several places of interests such as Oberammergau, Murnau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Beautiful view and room is spacious and clean. Convenient location Ettal Kloster is across the street.Breakfast was great!Make sure you have cash! They don’t take credit cards.

Erster Anblick: wunderbare Blumenkästen mit Geranien - schon sehr einladend .. Schönes gemütliches Pensionszimmer mit echten Blumen auf der Fensterbank und einem sehr schönen Balkon mit Blick auf das Kloster Ettal. Sehr netter, hilfsbereiter Besitzer (fährt uns mangels anderer Gelegenheit persönlich zu den Festspielen) und erzählt viel Interessantes zu dem Gebiet. Nasszelle ausreichend, Frühstück okay.

Wir wurden vom Besitzer unter Androhung der Polizei abends um acht im strömenden Regen inkl. unserer 2 Kinder rausgeschmissen, weil wir 2 unserer Fahrräder unter einen Balkon stellen wollten, um sie notdürftig vor dem Regen zu schützen. Da er gleich bei Ankunft die volle Bezahlung verlangt hatte, behielt Herr Bartl auch unser Geld ein. Besonders zu unseren Kindern war Herr Bartl von Anbeginn sehr unfreundlich. Ich kann von einem Besuch dieses Gästehauses nur abraten.

Gemütlich eingerichtete saubere Zimmer. Freundliches Personal mit Tipps für die Anfahrt zu den Passionsspielen. Sehr reichhaltiges Frühstück mit sehr aufmerksamer Bedienung; etwas mehr dunkle Brötchen statt fast nur Weizenbrötchen wäre gut. Problemloses kostenloses Parken.

Gepflegtes Haus. Netter Empfang durch Herrn Bartel. Unser Zimmer, bestückt mit Möbeln im alpenländischen Stil, lag ab der Straße, der Verkehrslärm war nicht zu hören. Das Badezimmer schien neu renoviert. Einzig das Frühstück könnte noch etwas "Frische" gebrauchen. Vielleicht sollte die ein oder andere Scheibe Wurst oder Käse durch etwas Obst oder Joghurt ersetzt werden. Die Übernachtung im Gästehaus Ethiko hat uns gut gefallen.
