Lovely

The TV did not work, which in itself is not a big issue, however the door did not lock, after several phone calls to reception and 2 visits from the duty manager I was told he would have to use the master key to lock the door and I would have to ask reception to let me back in. I asked if I could change rooms to make my stay easier, but never got an answer.

The room. Looked nice but the TV did not work, the bath water was cold, the toilet did not flush properly, the sink plug was stuck and a previous bathroom flood had rendered the carpet outside of the bathroom sodden. My complaint to the reception staff was treated with contempt. A promise of a visit to the room did not happen (we sat there for an hour but eventually had to leave the room to eat). The next morning there was no apology, no explanation. We were only stopping one night and so there was no reason to continue with our feedback at that point. The room itself was well appropriated, warm and with a good selection of tea items. Bed comfortable and a nice view of the (magnificent) grounds. The restaurant (the Fork - which I will leave a separate review for) breakfast was superb, could not fault it apart from the reception the previous evening told us breakfast was 0700 - 0930. We had set an alarm for an early meal and getaway but sadly the restaurant did not open till 0800. They had given us the weekday times. As for the evening meal, if you want to spend £30 on what was as bad as any school dinner I ever had, then good luck to you. Very poor quality and choice. We were celebrating my wife's significant birthday and they completely ruined it for us. Never going back.

Lovely looking hotel and friendly staff. Spacious but cold room. Air on heater did not work but there was an electric heater that worked. The food was terrible! Bland chicken starter, undercooked belly pork for dinner and literally raw bacon for breakfast that had the edges blackened by a blow torch. Scrambled eggs were good. Does no one care or taste the good? Very strange.

No working lift, nor had there been for several days. No porters. Thus our 86 year old friend had to struggle up three flights of stairs with his case. Inadequate lighting in our room with just one small ceiling light next to door and one bedside light. Requested a second bedside light, none came. Hotel decor shabby and tired. Very poor experience.

Brilliant does not cut it really. Excellent staff, service, food and location. Very reasonably priced excellent restaurant with food to match Breakfast of the highest quality And a golf course

At first, we went to the big building on the left. Perhaps provide a sign pointing to the reception. No Wi-Fi in dining room. Large, modern rooms. Put your room key card in a slot by the door to enable the lights and power sockets. We had two rooms; in each room we could hear water running all day and all night. There may be a toilet leaking somewhere. We told Reception the first night, but the noise was not fixed. The receptionist gave us good advice: if you want to take the train to London, Hemel Hempstead is a better station than Apsley because it has better parking and more trains.

room was not ready. extra bed promised not in the room sink in the bath room was not draining properly telephone not working. reception staff very unhelpful breakfast excellent.
