Windwalker Cabin is our remote vacation retreat cabin nestled on 20 acres of remote wooded mountainside in the Blue Ridge Mountains, halfway between Boone and West Jefferson. High Speed internet for web surfing and TV streaming. Cabin is located north of Boone near the Historic town of Todd. Check out Toddnc.org for local happenings. We’re only a little over 3 miles from the awesome New River. Cabin located on old gravel road, so please drive slowly. Native trout live in stream that runs near property and Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout are stocked just below the property in the hatchery supported area of Three Top Creek. There are several roadside access locations downstream from property for public fishing. Wildlife is bountiful all around the property. Awesome bird watching too. Beautifully furnished and decorated cabin, with firepit just off porch. Full size refrigerator and stove, with all the utensils you will need. Coffee pot, blender, microwave as well as pots, pans, bowls etc. Stargazing on clear nights is just awesome! Located just over 3 miles from Historic Todd. Just 13 miles from shopping, restaurants, movies etc. in Boone or West Jefferson. Only 24 miles from Blowing Rock. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a short 20 minute drive away. There is Tubing, guided fishing tours, canoeing and kayaking located in and around Todd. This 400 square foot true log cabin with all wood interior is the perfect place for a quaint getaway. Cabin is located on a country gravel road so potholes are normal and speed limit is 10 mph. The driveway for owners house runs past the cabin, so an occasional car will pass by. This is a farm and occasionally a tractor, ATV or other equipment is in use. We also use building near cabin but try hard not to disturb our guests. Sorry no smoking inside. Meant as a respite from the hustle and bustle, the living room hosts the only TV, but there is Wi-Fi is available throughout the home. The TV does include Netflix and Amazon Prime. Gas logs make the living room extra cozy on chilly fall days. The living room includes a TV, oversized sofa, two wingback chairs, and additional chairs that can be moved to the kitchen for more seating. Please note, we have a newly installed window unit AC. In 155 years we haven't needed it, but we realize for some guests it’s a must. Open windows, an occasional fan, or the forced cold air of the AC will have you feeling cool and comfortable. The peace and quiet will have you drifting off to sleep in no time. The fully equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, gas range, microwave, pots, pans, coffee pot, crockpots, cooking tools and utensils. The whole family can enjoy meals together at either the large kitchen table or the on the two patio tables.Both bedrooms feature full sized beds are decorated with both simplicity and comfort in mind. Bed linens are provided as well as extra pillows and blankets. Every room has at least one open space for a dog bed or crate.DECK AND YARD:The porch, large deck and yard aren’t just for the humans. Gates on both the deck and patio will help ensure your dog can enjoy those too! Beautiful trees shade the side yard so it is enjoyable to sit outside (or lay out in the hammock) even on hot sunny days. Rope lights surround the back deck and create the perfect ambience after sunset. Our stereo connects to speakers on the deck, so you can enjoy music while outside. The oversized deck has two separate seating options with total seating for 8. At mealtime you can enjoy cooking outdoors on the gas grill. DOGGIE DETAILS:KEARNEY’S PLACE welcomes up to 4 dogs. There is NO pet fee. We do not discriminate based on breed or size, but due to the size of our cottage, we are unable to accommodate more than 2 XL-breed dogs (100+ pounds) per booking. All dogs must be housebroken, up-to-date on shots and must be crated when left in the cottage unattended (exceptions to crate requirement may be made by host on a case by case situation). We ask that you clean up after your pet and properly dispose of any waste. We are unable to accommodate animals other than dogs at this time. If you are bringing 4 dogs please note that we will limit the human occupancy to 4 people as we want to ensure that our cottage does not feel too crowed for our guests. If additional cleaning is required after your stay, we may assess an added cleaning fee. NEARBY RESTAURANTS AND ATTRACTIONS:Kearney’s Place is centrally located to everything that Ashe County has to offer. The New River is just a short 5 minute trip down Old Hwy 16. The new river is great for canoeing, fishing and tubing. We do not offer canoes, tubes or kayaks, but they can be rented locally. Our cozy cottage is just 3 minutes to Shatley Springs Restaurant, 5 minutes to The River House Restaurant and 15 minutes to Jefferson and West Jefferson. The town of West Jefferson has many boutiques and restaurants. Join us during the summer when the town hosts several fairs, live music, gallery crawls, a weekly farmers market and other events. If Autumn is more your season, join us when the fall foliage is in full swing and enjoy our local fall festivals, corn mazes, and pumpkin picking while surrounded by breathtaking colorful scenery. The holiday season offers a Christmas wonderland of lights throughout downtown, choose-and-cut Christmas trees at our many neighboring tree farms, as well as community holiday events. We are about 40 minutes from Boone, but perfect for a day trip to visit the college, downtown or to head over to Blowing Rock. Spring is rapidly approaching and rentals in West Jefferson book fast. If you are looking for a cozy, special place for just you, or both of you, we hope you'll stay with us!After traveling for 4 years, we settled in the charming town of West Jefferson, North Carolina, in an established neighborhood, a 5 minute walk to downtown shops, cafes and art galleries. We were thrilled our home included an artist's studio atop the garage, just behind our home, but decided we would prefer to use the studio for friends and family; a guesthouse close enough for socializing but far enough for everyone to have their own space. In between family and friends we are opening our guesthouse, Vogelsang (German for birdsong), to you, and whether you are a couple or solo traveler, we are committed to making you as comfortable as family. There is ample off street parking, 15 stair steps to the studio and a small deck for enjoying views of Little and Big Phoenix Mountains. Inside is a queen bed with soft sheets, plenty of pillows (you can never have too many pillows), comforter and extra blankets for those cool nights in the mountains. The bath has a shower, toilet, small sink, towels and ample hooks. A dorm frig, microwave, coffee maker and coffee, is in the nook. If you or your companion are super tall, you may find the 6'9" ceilings confining. The entry door is 5'8" and everyone instinctively ducks, even if they are only 5'2". But once inside, you will find everything you need for a cozy, comfortable stay. Wi-fi, TV, air conditioning, heat, peace and quiet!When you are ready to explore downtown, a quick walk, or drive, through the Town park, past basketball, pickle ball and tennis courts, playground, the Ashe County Library, to all the activity and excitement of shops, cafes and galleries. Grab a coffee and sweet at Hatchet Coffee, lunch at an English Tea Room, a movie, or beer in the evening at one of two craft breweries. The trolley to the Old Barn Winery departs and returns downtown on the weekends on a regular schedule. Hop on and leave the driving to them. You can even choose your Christmas Tree while there.
