Welcome to Rustic Ridge! We are near skiing and hiking, making us a true 4 season destination. This little cabin was originally constructed over the foundation of an old tobacco barn built in the 1940s. It was struck by lightning in the 1970's, where it unfortunately burnt down. The materials used in the remodeling of what we now call Rustic Ridge were reclaimed materials. Most of the planks and finish lumber are a mix of wormy chestnut, ash, and cherry wood. They were salvaged from an old farmhouse that was dismantled on our nearby property. With all new plumbing and electrical, you get all the safety and comfort of your own home. The house is equipped with heating and air conditioning. There is plenty of parking directly in front of the cottage, and parking is monitored by a security camera for your safety.We are pet-friendly with a $35 fee. This allows One Pet, under 25lbs. We would like to share our mountain cabin located on 45 acres of private land and situated on the beautiful Elk River. This river cabin is located in the Cherokee National Forest and will sleep 7 people. And remember the third sleeping room must be accessed by a ship ladder. Kids love this loft sleeping spot! This home is small but very cozy and relaxing. Additionally, you will find all the amenities of modern house including a large smart TV and WiFi, and a full kitchen. The cabin porch deck overlooks the large Elk River. And because you are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest, abundant wildlife are present in these scenic mountains. The Elk River is a great fishing location that has rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and catfish.During the summer months be sure to bring your swimsuit and enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool river water. Or bring inflatable floats for a river float-down. You can also use our kayak and canoe and take full advantage of this large beautiful river. The riverside deck pavilion has a large BBQ grill and is a great place to picnic. You can also grill on an open fire at the fire ring right next to the pavilion. Or you can just sit by the river and relax to the soothing sound of flowing water. There is a hammock on the pavilion for an afternoon nap. Fishing can be productive close to the river deck. This property is open all year, and every season has its own special allure. During early Summer the fireflies gather at night in this deep mountain location. Autumn brings the color change and the trees are something to see. Local festivals are an attraction in East Tennessee. The month of June boasts the annual Rhododendron Festival in the surrounding mountains. And in September the town of Elizabethton is 35 minutes away and host a Covered Bridge Celebration with live music. October is “Country Thunder” at Bristol Speedway. Unicoi County has an Apple Festival as well as the Fall-O-Dendron festival in Roan Mountain. November is the “Speedway in Lights” event located in Bristol - all are fun things to see in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. And don’t forget Winter! Beech Mountain Ski Resort is only a 45 minute drive. Additionally, giant Watauga Lake is only a short drive and offers scenic views as well as fishing, kayaking, sailing and pontoon boat rentals. The Appalachian Trail is also very close to this cabin. The location where the AT trail crosses Watauga Lake is something to see. The property also borders the official boundaries of the Cherokee National Forest and offers a private and somewhat isolated retreat that you will not forget. The 45 land also borders the Heaton branch stream, and walking around the land provides a great two-hour hike. This is a private home with surrounding neighbors. For respect of the neighbors, house parties are not allowed under any circumstances. Fines deducted from deposit may occur if number of guests rule or disrespect for neighbors property is broken.We provide some paper towels, dishwasher tabs, toilet paper and laundry detergent. You may want to bring extra if you have a larger group. A Dollar General is located down the road and is very well stocked with supplies as well.Please return all items, furniture and bedding to the room they were found in if you feel it is necessary to move things during your stay.All trash MUST go into trash bags before being placed in the outside can located in the garage. There is no recycling so please include these items in the trash bags. Also, do not dump grill ash or used charcoal directly into the trash cans. Please leave the outside trash can in the garage.Very important* This home has a septic system. Items such as feminine hygiene products, toilet wipes, baby wipes, napkins, and tissue CANNOT be flushed and must be thrown into the trash. This is true even if it says "flushable"!There are 2 kayaks that can be used by guests upon request to the Host at check in. You will need to let the Host know if you plan to use the water equipment. A fine will incur if paddles or seats are lost or damage is done to the equipment. You will need to supply your own Life jackets as they are required. You will need to return the kayaks to the storage rack at the end of each day and prior to leaving at the end of your stay.You will need to provide your own towels for outside use.
