The John and Mattie Norwood House is a historic craftsman bungalow built in the early 1900s with a lot of history behind it (it has Freemason symbols as its gable vents!). It's even officially noted as one of Chatham County's "Historic Structures"!Think hardwood floors, lots of sunlight pouring through the windows, and a gorgeous Japanese Maple right outside the sunroom. Plus, an equally stunning Magnolia tree out front. If you prefer a country feel while still being less than 10 minutes from town, this place is perfect for you!There is a side deck, front porch, fire pit, picnic table, and plenty of camping chairs for you to use for relaxing outside. If inside is more your thing, enjoy the old-school charm of a record player, plenty of board games, books, and a VHS/DVD player. (Plenty of records and movies to choose from!)By the way, there's a trampoline and a fitness park, too! It's perfect to move around and stretch out after a long day of traveling. Many of our guests love this option, if they're here for the proximity to the school. The house is on a highway, behind a privacy fence and trees so the traffic noise is muted. But for light sleepers, we have a white noise machine beside the bed as well as a floor fan to drown out any wanted sounds. The house is broken up into two spaces with two separate, secure entrances, but both spaces have access to the laundry room.We are close to town (5-10 minutes/close to UNC), but just enough in the country for some privacy and to be surrounded by trees. Located right off Hwy 15-501 with a park and ride lot just across the street and amazing restaurants, groceries and park options all within 5 miles. Walmart for essentials (1/4 mile), Lowes Foods (1/4 mile) and Harris Teeter (2 miles) for basic groceries, Weaver St Market (2 miles) for health food and local options. Southern Village (2 miles) has restaurants, gyms, and bars, and in the other direction, you have pizza, coffee, and a breakfast cafe. Many new spots opening every month as this area is growing fast! This unit also has a living room with optional fold down queen-size Murphy Bed and kitchenette which includes a coffeemaker, 2 burner cooktop, microwave, toaster oven and minifridge with freezer compartment. Kitchenette is stocked with cups, coffee mugs, a variety of wine glasses, small & large plates, bowls, silverware, basic cooking utensils & knives, baking sheet, pot & frying pan. Some basic spices & oil also provided for your convenience. Living area includes large wraparound couch with coffee table & Wall-mounted smart tv features streaming options including Roku, Netflix, Hulu etc. This unit features independent climate control that you can set to your comfort level of AC/heat with remote. The bathroom features handicap accessible sink with mirror and storage drawers, toilet with wall mounted accessibility bars, & Mrs. Meyers hand soap. It is not uncommon to see a family of deer grazing as they are plentiful in Redbud.The first floor is an open concept including the kitchen, dining area and family room. There are 2 bedrooms on the main level, one with a king size bed and full bathroom and the other with a queen size bed and another full bath across the hall. The lower level is a walkout basement. This large area consists of a sectional with a queen sleeper, a checker table, bar area, laundry room and another king size bedroom with full bath. The lower level has a very spacious patio with firepit. There is additional outdoor space(decks) off the main floor kitchen and main floor master bedroom.Guest accessYou will need a car to get around.Other things to noteProbably what we love the most about our house is it’s privacy yet access to so much. We are 7 miles from downtown Pittsboro with its burgeoning art scene and quality shops and restaurants, 15 minutes to Chapel Hill and UNC, 30 minutes from Raleigh, Durham and RDU and 2 miles from Jordan Lake State Park which offers hiking trails, boating, boat rentals or chartered tours and beaches.
