Overall: A safe, clean, quiet option when looking for a place to stay in the Newport area - significantly less expensive than staying downtown, even when factoring in Uber / Lyft rides (over the 2 days/2 nights we were there, we spent about $100 between 8 rides to / from the hotel to either the beach or downtown Newport). PROS: 1. Rooms are clean and fairly spacious, hotel feels safe, free breakfast and downtown Newport is just a short ride away! A good spot for a weekend getaway to Newport. 2. Front desk staff was great, they let us check in early (even after a sold out night) and both times we asked for extra towels, they were brought up almost immediately. 3. I also appreciated how a Starbucks, Shaw’s and Walgreens are all within a 10 minute walk of the hotel (even though the walk to get there isn’t the most pedestrian friendly). 4. I didn’t have the chance to use the indoor pool, but I appreciated the option, as I don’t believe all Hampton Inn’s have pools. Recommendations for Improvement: 1. Shuttle - either making the shuttle free or at a much reduced cost. I read in reviews that the shuttle was $3 one way and was disappointed to find that the price has increased to $7 one way per person. For the average couple, let alone the average family, it’s cheaper - or at the very least the same cost (depending on the time of day) - to just Uber / Lyft downtown. 2. Not sure why the website lists an onsite restaurant? There isn’t one, other than the lobby hosting the complimentary breakfast, which is only open at breakfast. I’d recommend adjusting this on the website as it’s a bit misleading. As a Hilton credit card holder, I was hoping to use my quarterly Hilton credit for a drink and/or meal here, and was disappointed to learn this wasn’t a possibility. 3. Fix the Keycard issue - our keycards weren’t working our second night and we had to go down to fix them. Then, that following morning before checkout we had the same problem with the new key cards as well, not sure the issue there.
I had a really hard time with contacting this Bed and Breakfast. The communication was really bad. I was contacted with the house code a few days before arriving which I was thankful for. I was worrying we wouldn’t have a room when we arrived. I left many messages on the answering machine which seemed to go to somebody’s voicemail but no one answered my calls for some reason. This was all made up though when we arrived. The beautiful front door was open and the hostess was amazing. She attended to all of our needs. We had the master suite and it was very nice. The house is very well taken care. The outside well not so much. They have a fountain but it was shut down in June? The lawn and trees need some upkeep. There was a big log laying by the parking area. I’m not sure why it hadn’t been removed. All in all this was a great place to stay and in a good location for visiting the guilded mansions of Rhode Island. It is very close to shopping and sights. It is in town but you feel you are out by yourself. The breakfast was good. Basically, muffins, pastries and fruit. No eggs, sausage, bacon etc. The mansion was very clean and we enjoyed our stay. I wish that I could remember the wonderful house takers name because she is excellent. I believe she is the only gal working there so you will probably meet her if you stay here. It was fun to stay in an old mansion and we happened to be the only one’s around so it was like our own place.
EEvie WThis hotel is spotless ! Everything is very clean . Housekeeping came in daily and changed towels and tidied up. Toni at the front desk was very friendly and when I mentioned to her that the shade in our room was stuck she had it fixed immediately . Suzette from the breakfast area did an amazing job of keeping the food options full, warm and appetizing up until the end of the breakfast window . She also continually cleaned the tables as soon as someone finished eating . Our stay here was pleasant all 4 nights. We will definitely return to this hotel in the future.
I ENJOYED Myself and the staff was good. It was also quite at night. I Would return in the future. Check in was great and the rate was also good. I only stayed 1 night and wished I stayed longer. When is the best time to visit this hotel? I also was disappointed that I didn't Get a Military Discount🤨
8893kyleoBooked a handicap room and had it stated in my email and it was given to another guest instead. As of that we where put on the second floor. I'm on a cane with limited mobility and also use a scooter as well. My mother is also on a cane and my father has heart problems. Because of this we where only able to barely able to get up the steps so we only got to do half of what we went for. Also because of this I wasn't able to charge my scooter so I only had limited battery life. Also couldn't shower and need my parents to get me off the toilet. Floors uneven trip many times. There's a three inch step down to the room and my father triped there resulting in a hairline fracture in his wrist. Horrible place. Then choice only refunded me half my stay. Never will I come to a choice hotel.
