I've read many of the reviews for Sligichan and while I can appreciate and understand why many have reported poor experiences, I think one has to put this property into perspective. Could the hotel use a few upgrades? Sure. Does Seumas' restaurant have the best food you will have in Scotland? No. Does everyone love their job at Seumas'? Probably not. But considering the location, the ambience, and the customer service from most of the staff, I rate this property highly. For those from the US that have reported that the property is overpriced, have you ever stayed at a property on or near a National Park? I've paid way more for a room at a NP that had no amenities and a 20 year old mattress! The property is clean, quiet, and the our bathroom was recently renovated. Additionally, the breakfasts in the AM were great, and if you have a custom order they are more than accommodating. A special shout out goes to Martin who I assume is the General Manager or something similar. While it is not necessarily a good thing for a property to have one person who can make your experience special, Martin is that person. I also had the occasion to connect with Martin after our visit and his customer service was as good after I left as it was when we were there in person. Thanks, Martin! I would most definitely go back.

This cottage is very quaint and well equipped. Nice location. The only problem we had was trying to figure out how to work the oven, even with the manual.
SSKO211We couldn't have been happier with this hotel! I was a bit hesitant to book here due to some negative reviews, but our experience couldn't have been more positive! I booked the Superior room, it was more than large enough for my husband and myself, and our adult son (the rooms were separated by a 4 or 5 step staircase, our son had the upper room, we had the lower). Beds and pillows were very comfortable, the rooms and bathroom were very clean! There is a fan provided in the room, thankfully, as I sleep with a fan on year round. The kind gentlemen at the desk even put one together for my son to use, much appreciated! The breakfast was fabulous, and the woman serving us each morning was an absolute delight! All of the staff members were kind, warm, and friendly! The bar downstairs is a comfortable place to hangout for the evening, there were mostly locals in there, lovely people, great conversations! I do highly recommend this hotel!
I think this hotel is understaffed and overpriced! They did not have personnel to take our heavy bags to the room!! We had to carry over a 100 yards on a gravel path; so we could not roll them and have to carry. Bar service was also bad. Food was good but a bit pricey. Definitely not recommended for over £630 a night!!!
The outside and the common rooms are very nice. Unfortunately, the room we stayed in was tiny and stuffy (there is no air conditioning), the only air coming from two small windows, neither of which opened properly. Had to jam books under one sash to keep it open. There are no lifts, it's 45 steps to the top floor. If you stay on the top floor, the heat beats in from the sun--good luck in the Summer, late Fall and/or midge season. Bathroom has no shower curtain which led to water all over the floor, and amazingly no place whatsoever to put down a bar of soap while in the shower--you'll have to hold it. The bed seemed old and lumpy. Finally, the restaurant was less than mediocre. Don't eat there unless you have to.
My stay at the Bracken Hide was really amazing. I can see some reviews are hit and miss, but ours was a hit thanks to amazing staff, in particular Shannon, who was there morning noon and night, and to both Pauls who chatted with us in the bar. If you’re considering staying here, I’d suggest managing your expectations ahead of time. We were in cabin 1 - the farthest one at the top of the hill - and we had wonderful weather. In the Scottish rain it probably would have been tough, and we don’t have any issues with mobility. Additionally, keep in mind you’re on an island that likely has to ship in a good amount of their food and resources, including people. You might have to be a little flexible. WiFi might be spotty - this is a somewhat remote island (but we didn’t have any issues). A little kindness and patience will go a long way; when we displayed it, we were repaid in spades by the incredible staff.
