If this was the first Marriott we’d ever stayed in, we’d probably never book another. It’s very well located right on the edge of the bustling shopping and dining areas, and it’s in a converted historical monastery. The ground floor is spectacular, imaginative and breathtaking, but seemingly they ran out of money there. The hallways look worse than dormitory hallways, narrow with one side in white and the other in what looks like particle board. Our room, a superior one, is by far the worst designed hotel room we have ever had, and we’ve been to over 160 countries, so thousands of hotels. The toilet is the first little room by the door, but there is a heavy glass door into the bedroom. There is a minuscule walk in closet, but you can’t open the doors to it without closing the heavy glass door, and vice versa. Easily the stupidest design ever. The room itself is very stark so we wondered if the idea was to make you feel like you’re sleeping in an old austere monastery. The A/C did not work well but was very loud. The bedside tables are so low they may as well just put a mat on the ground. In the shower they have installed the wall shower head so low that only a three year old can fit under it and the soap/shampoo dispensers are installed right under the rain shower so you have to switch off the shower to use them. There were several other stupid design features but you get the idea. On top of this they have the audacity to charge € 45 for valet parking as there is no self parking. We really loved Maastricht but would not stay here again.
Comfortable hotel with excellent service. Close to a railway station and very convenient for visiting the MECC and the MUMC. Breakfast was great. Only drawback was that the room was very hot due to lack of AC.
Attention to detail is what sticks. It was amazing experience the VIP Andre Package worth every cent. The staff at hotel were excellent especially the head Maitre d a terrific personality. It's a huge crowd to manage and serve. One comment, our table seating for main dinner meant we could not hear announcements or see orchestra playing. Perhaps a speaker around that corner would help as space is limited. Otherwise perfect and a high standard.
Ruime suite met voldoende voorzieningen. Het koffieapparaat accepteerde geen Nespresso capsules.
Ontbijt was middelmatig. Er is onvoldoende ruimte om alle gasten tegelijkertijd te kunnen laten ontbijten.
Ruime en gratis parkeerruimte in nabijheid van het hotel
A really lovely place - we had a very luxurious studio and really enjoyed staying there. Great attention to details ~ it had everything we wanted for a very comfortable stay. Exceptionally comfy bed. The grounds are divine right on the river and the location perfect. We got a taxi in to Maastricht for 15 euros and walked back along the river - very nice location but don’t walk unless you enjoy walking. It’s 45 mins. You can hire bikes too. We had a lovely champagne breakfast delivered to the room and it was so huge we made lunch from it too. Would most happily return for longer next time ~ it was perfect. Oh great parking and staff too! Thanks for a lovely stay. The free minibar was a nice touch.
The Dutch came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Although I was a bit skeptical about the ”full self-service”, every aspect from check-in to check-out was easy, and in-person help was available when needed. I would describe it as ”all of the luxuries, none of the fussiness”. The Hangout was a favorite spot to read or play fussball, aided by the excellent coffee and fresh fruit continuously available. The location a few minutes' walk from the train station was very convenient. Probably my favorite hotel ever.
We booked the grand room as advertised on ********** which was the largest room, with a city view and a large bath. We had been riding in torrential rain for hours and decided to treat ourselves. We were allocated one of the XL rooms, as soon as we walked it it was clear it was nothing like the photos and didn't even have a bath. Went down to question this with the staff. We we allocated a room with a bath. However this room was smaller than the first and had view of nothing really. Again I went to reception and asked why we weren't given the grand room we had booked. The man on reception said there was an error on the site, he said no XL rooms have a bath. I brought up the photo of the room we thought we had booked and asked where it is in the hotel and was told it isn't in the hotel. So save your money and don't bother trying to book the grand room, it doesn't exist. On going to bed we noticed the sheet on the bed has a hole in it. We have been offered complimentary breakfast and a partial refund to be confirmed in the morning. Oh and there's no washer & dryer to use, that was also advertised. We explained that we had booked this hotel for the specifics detailed on ********* if we had known it was false advertising we'd have booked elsewhere.
The hotel is walkable from the station, merely 100 mtrs or so. Reception staff is polite n helpful. I was attended by Marica and Emily on different days and both were very helpful and sweet. Key locations like the North caves n the fort, Helpoort gate, Basilica, shopping street etc are all a nice long walk from the hotel. I was able to leave my luggage post-checkout with the staff till my train departure was due. There is complimentary coffee n soup at the restaurant, which felt good to have after the walk in the cold. The room was clean and tea supplies too were provided. Some noise from the station nearby and people on the street, otherwise a peaceful stay.
