The good things first. The location could not be more central, right around the corner from the Odense Central Station. Moreover, most of the people who work here are kind and welcoming. I'm not even sure that the person who upset me (more on that later) meant to be cruel. This would likely be a great place for young people to stay. But the rooms are tiny and in my own room one of the beds was a bunk, which I could not have climbed to even if I needed to. But what bothered me was the policy on checkout, which was 11 AM, an hour earlier than I am used to. As it happened, I slept in and was a little late getting myself together in the morning: I'm almost 70 and partially disabled. Precisely at 11:15, there was a firm, loud knock on the door -- the kind that would make you think the police were about to come in -- and I was told I ”should have been out 15 minutes ago!” (I'd actually thought of calling down to the desk to let them know that I'd be a few minutes late but there was no phone in the room.) I told them I'd be out in a moment and appeared at the front desk about 7 minutes later. I complained at the desk and they calmed me down a bit. Still, one wonders if such ferocity was in order, particularly toward an elderly man, just trying to do things as quickly as possible, with no phone at his disposal. I didn't see another visitor in the hotel -- there may have been some but it was by no means crowded. Most hotels will give you at least a half hour's grace period -- an hour is more standard. And if they needed me out so urgently, couldn't somebody have put it more graciously? I felt like an intruder. I've tried to be fair here but the experience made me miserable for the rest of the day.
