We arrived at a locked gate to the Manor at 3:30pm, using the buzzer and phone number we couldn't make contact with the hotel. So we had to phone our booking agent to contact them on our behalf - it turned out check wasn't until 5pm and no access could be gained to the property until then. Upon returning at 5:30pm we were again confronted with the locked gate, second time of trying the buzzer and phoning. Second time of no response and again we contacted our booking agent, who eventually got us in! Not the welcoming start you expect to a stay. Our room was quirky, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The location was good, within walking distance of the town. Although returning from dinner all the lights in the building were out at 9:30pm and we had to use mobile phone light to let ourselves in and go upstairs to our room - perhaps lights on a timer might be a good idea! Breakfast was excellent. I think the 'icing on the cake' was when we went to leave - we had handed in our keys and fob to the gate and were told we would be let out of the gate. It took 15 mins for the gate to be opened for us to get out!!
