Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling lived in Edinburgh while writing the series so there are many locations throughout the city that are said to be inspirations for people and places in the books. George Heriot's School located next to Greyfriars Kirkyard is reported to be the school that Hogwarts is based upon. There is some dispute on this but the school has become a pilgrimage site for Harry Potter fans.

The George Heriot's School in Edinburgh, Scotland is known for being the inspiration behind J. K. Rowling's Hogwarts in the world of Harry Potter. This is mainly because of its four towers. It can be easily seen from Edinburgh Castle. In the late 1600s it opened to kids, and has been hosting them ever since.
