蘭州大学は教育省直属の全国重点総合大学です。学校は1909年に創立され、前身は清末新政時代に設立された甘粛法政学堂で、甘粛近代高等教育の始まりの標識です。 1996年に国家「211プロジェクト」重点建設大学となった。2001年に国家「985工事」の重点建設の高水準研究型大学となり、2017年には双一流建設大学リスト(A類)に選ばれ、学校の発展は新時代に入った。
