In the confirmation Checkin we received it was announced at 2 pm. When we arrived at 2 pm we were told to wait for half an hour. We opted to return at 4 pm. At that moment we again were told we had to wait for half an hour. I spoke up loudly and we were given another room. The staff was just speaking from their perspective. As if running a hotel was a real problem. Manager, wake up ! Then in the room the internet failed. For every web site in the word a block came up saying a false dangerous web site was impersonating. Complete block.
We ended up unexpectedly extending our stay in Beaune and needed a hotel for a single night. Abbaye had good reviews and a reasonable price tag so we made a booking and I’m so glad we did. The staff was welcoming and made a special effort to have our room ready early for us. They assisted up the stairs with our luggage and toured us around the room. The room itself - we stayed in the Clos Vougeot suite on the 1st floor - was spacious and very quiet. The wifi worked well, the bed was deliciously comfortable and the rainforest shower head had excellent pressure. The hotel itself is quite charming and tucked away unobtrusively on a side street in central Beaune. As others have mentioned before us, the entrance is unassuming and can be initially missed and the infamous stairs are no joke but we took our time and were able to wrestle bags down on the way out. While we only enjoyed a brief stay, we’d happily return in the future for a longer visit.
Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Beaune but in easy walking distance of the town centre with all its attractions and to the train station. It can be difficult getting taxis in Beaune.Typical of this style of hotel our room (superior room) was a bit cramped especially as we were staying 7 nights and there was quite a bit of luggage .Very little hanging space for clothes. The bathroom was reasonably spacious. On our first night there was alot of noise from the patio area outside our room at 2-3 am ,the bar was closed but a group of young men were very noisy. We tried to contact reception but couldn't find the number. We reported this in the morning and it was obvious that others had disturbed sleep. After this first night it was quiet. It might be worth asking for a room that doesn't overlook the pool or patio area. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Provided me with ice to prevent bruising when I fell. The hotel was very clean Breakfast was adequate and there was a good supply of fresh fruit.I think this hotel is ideally suited for short stays or stop overs when travelling through France
I saw the great reviews here and the facility looked nice so I booked this hotel. I just got back from my stay and I am 100% sure that these reviews are fake so I want to warn others. We got to the hotel earlier than check in and our room wasn't ready which is absolutely no problem. We had planned to drop off our stuff and have lunch anyways. We get back at check in time and our room still isn't ready. They have had 3 hours notice at this point that we would be back at 3 after lunch. Then we head to the pool to wait for the room to be ready but I ask them to please let me know as soon as it is ready, as we have somewhere to be. An hour goes by and still nothing. At that point, I go back to check on things. Our room was ready, no one called us, or told us anything at all which was very frustrating. We probably would have been out there all day if I hadn't gone back to check. At this point we had to cancel our other plans because we didn't have enough time to shower and get there with the hour delay so we decide to nap. As soon as we start to nap there is an insanely loud alarm going off. This goes on for 20 minutes and the whole hotel has to evacuate. It ends up being a false alarm. I totally understand that things malfunction sometimes but the bigger issue was the staff. First off, at no point does anyone go around telling people that everything is fine, not to worry, or apologize for the inconvenience. The alarm just suddenly stops at some point. I expressed my frustration to reception between the check in process and the alarm going off but they literally did not care at all and barely gave me a sorry. At this point a normal hotel would have made some sort of commercial gesture - free breakfast, or at least try to pretend that they care at all, anything really. What's worse, I got the sense from their reactions that this alarm thing might be a regular occurrence as one of the staff muttered something that I should be grateful it wasn't at night. The next day we are going to see some wineries. We are leaving the hotel at 10:30 AM and the cleaning ladies are cleaning the room next door to us. We politely say hello and that we are leaving, we would like our room cleaned and that we would be back in the afternoon. We come back at 3:45 PM and the lady is in our room and just starting to clean it. I have no clue what she did from 10:30 AM - 3:45 PM as we were her next room to clean but I suspect she just did nothing. We are tired and just want to get in the room so we tell her it is no problem, she doesn't need to finish. We ask her to just refill the nespresso pods so that we can have coffee for the next morning. She says sure, leaves to go get them and never comes back. Another cleaning lady walks past the room and I ask her as well if we can get a refill. She says sure and that she would go grab some. Of course, she never comes back. Finally, I call the front desk. I express my disappointment again with the level of service and ask for coffee p
We were a bit worried after the recent reviews but needn’t have been. On arrival our daughter went straight to the pool. The family room was a good size and the hotel stored our ice packs in the freezer enabling our onward transit to the south. The atmosphere is laid back and a bit quirky. About a 20 minute east walk to the centre of Beaune. Breakfast was ok, a little chaotic, but we got what we needed. The kids play area was also a nice touch. We would definitely return.
I want to emphasize this particular feature because it’s not usual. I’ll tell you our sad circumstances but first: there is H parking right by the automatic doors to reception and our room was a straight shot from there. Our key card opened the door by electronic signal. Straight through there is a door to a grassy area. To the left of that a wide door to a huge « wet » room with roll in shower, lowered sink and toilet. Our room, 002, has a king bed, etc, and five feet away against the back wall a third person single bed that is made up as a sofa. There is a full length mirror by the bathroom door. Our booking, done months ago, was non refundable as of two days ago which was no problem as things were going well at that time: but when we arrived at our Irish ferry port we found out that we would arrive in Cherbourg five hours later than the expected Noon. Beaune is over 400 km! So we got here at 3am and thanks to the night attendant Manuel, we arranged by phone a special pickup of our key. He spoke English and reassured us that we would be okay. And we are. WARNING Do not use Garmin GPS but carry a map. GARMIN took us the regular route to the Paris périphérique to A6 WHICH IS CLOSED FOR A HUGE SECTION necessitating a jammed slip road use with trucks and Paris traffic and probably forty traffic lights. THEN we were guided to Orly airport and Garmin was totally off..you could see from the road signs that the nav system was faulty. AND the A6 southbound is closed and detoured from Autun to Beaune (maybe more, I’ll find out soon enough). Being 82 I’m going to have to upgrade my tech, it’s hard, international travel using a pricey ATT iPhone. After Ireland, I’d call this hotel a bargain in a very touristic, charming Burgundian town. That’s my story: you can see why I’m grateful for this wonderful accommodation.
On arrival we were informed that the restaurant was very busy and they only had one person in the kitchen so unlikely to be able to accommodate evening meal. So a 15 minute walk for our evening meal into the town. Room was over looking vines and edge of industrial estate but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was fairly good selection buffet style.
