For people from the United Kingdom Serbia is not we'll known as a holiday destination. Although we [the UK] enjoy relatively large communities from the Balkans our holiday destinations are largely limited to Croatia, Slovenia with a smattering of Montenegro. If I was going to see the world then Belgrade had to be next on my list. This would be country #125. A two-hour and twenty-five minute flight from Luton, the only UK destination that we could find that flew directly, brought us to Belgrade. A historic city in transformation; craving modernity - a poster for a fifties spy film. The architecture had the look and feel of Eastern Europe. Our accommodation was the Dominic Parliament Luxury Suites; located centrally opposite the nations National Assembly building. The outside of the suites are quite unremarkable, they could be missed easily in a sea of rendered buildings. Inside, however, is a different story. Located on the fourth floor the suites have a contemporary finish executed to a high standard. The shower room had a glass wall, a clear glass wall!, separating it from the sleeping accommodation - nicely done even down to the curtain to spare anyone's blushes whilst taking a number two. Our room even had a name 'Sarah' how cute. A fitted wide screen TV and bed head that extended into the ceiling completed the look, top marks. There is enough storage for a week long trip and a mini bar that was very reasonably priced - I like this place. We took the stairs avoiding the exposed iron lift that looked straight out of a bond set. I expected to see Sir Sean Connery diving out of the lift doors, mid floor, fighting a chiseled well built man who has taken a dislike to him. The suites are ideally located for... well.. everything. Recent history for Serbia has left its mark on Belgrade, the Radio & Television of Serbia building is yards away. The Yugoslav Ministry of Defence building and Belgrade Fortress are both within easy walking distance - so are all of the shops restaurants and bars that anyone could ask for. A little further away but still within walking distance is the magnificent [The] Temple of Saint Sava. Love Belgrade and the Dominic Parliament Luxury Suites, full marks. I absolutely recommend it.
