Good location, and only a short walk from shops, bars, restaurants and the reef cruise terminal. Large rooms with all things you would need for a short stay although the room we stayed in was dated. I believe there is a room modernisation programme on the go. Quite noisy at night, not sure if it was coming from the hotel bar area on floor 3 or from a nearby establishment. Our room was on floor 10 and even with the balcony door closed it still kept us awake. Staff were pleasant and helpful and rooms serviced daily. We booked this hotel in July 2022 with breakfast included. It came as a surprise to us when we took breakfast on the first day that we only had limited choice from the menu. All other items including larger breakfast items, juice and coffee were charged extra. Due to time limitations on the first day we left it till later to complain. Reception explained that there had been a change of management and had discontinued the buffet breakfast in favour of an al a carte one. They phoned the restaurant and authorised full breakfast free of charge for us. As we had paid cash for extras the previous day, this was now lost. We always check booking.com and trip advisor reviews before making reservations. My advice would be to ignore those prior to July 2022 and especially ones that mention breakfast.
This is definitely a place that is orientated more towards families rather than couples. What was good was the friendly staff throughout the resort, the food and beverage service and the convenient underground parking. Stayed in a deluxe king room on the fifth floor overlooking Cairns city which appears to have been recently upgraded. Room smelt damp on entry and after the first shower it was evident why. It is hard to believe that someone designed the shower so that water flowed directly onto the floor and out into the living area even when you had the least amount of water flow possible. Wee bit of a design flaw I would suggest. Also, when booking a King size bed it would be a good idea to ask guests if they want a second bed in the room along with connecting rooms. I personally have no wish to have connecting rooms unless I am staying as a family. This door along with the front door were not particularly well sealed and you could here plenty of noise from outside and next door. The balcony is marketed as being intimate in yet has one chair and being a connecting room has nothing between you and your neighbours balcony. Hardly intimate. Based on the reviews I am sure this place is perfect for families however, there are better choices for couples elsewhere in Cairns.
ゲゲストMy partner and I stayed at sunshine tower for 5 nights and it was an enjoyable stay. I want to start by saying the girls on reception were all very friendly and welcoming, they were happy to have a chat anytime and also recommended places to visit and see. Shout out to Phoebe she was lovely! The property is a little be further out of the main ***** but only a 10-15 minute walk or you can jump on one of the Beam scooters that are outside. The outside of the property is tired looking and could do with an update but the rooms are renovated and lovely. Tiled floors, updated furniture and great sizes. The kitchenette was lovely to have even though we didn’t really use it. There is no oven or stove up so keep this in mind when booking. The bathroom was a tad small but worked and the shower was great! We were in room 702 which had a lovely view towards the beach but note that this level also houses the electrical stuff so it is a little loud when you are trying to sleep. The tv was a smart tv but could never connect to the wifi so I would recommend them to update to have modems on each level. The outdoor pool and sauna were okay, only used it once and unfortunately the texture of the spa and pool was very rough on the skin so couldn’t stay in there long. BBQs are available for use but we didn’t use these. No housekeeping (I knew about this before booking) however the girls at reception were more than happy to provide more toilet paper/towels/tea/coffee etc with no extra cost. Overall it’s a great property and worth the visit for stays under a week!
ゲゲストSelf Check in, staff member was cheerful enough. At 70, having had 3 heart attacks and waiting on 2 knee and 2 hip replacements, having 2 suitcases and no lift we were given our booked QUEEN bedroom, which ended up on the second level, we called down to reception to ask if we could please have a room on a lower level as we were having to come back down as we were catching up with our grandsons for dinner. We were given a DOUBLE bedroom not what we had booked on the 1st level. Please see Pics. Breakfast was good minus all the sugar ants. A shame the rooms have gone downhill. The fridge needed to be thrown to the tip.
LLinda E Address: 331-337 Lake St, Cairns City QLD 4870 Phone: (07) 4041 6605 If you are unfortunate enough to be allocated this unit there are things you should be advised The Edge Apartments Cairns is situated in Cairns only 220 yards from the Northen end of the Esplanade and the Coral Sea. It has 2 outdoor pools and spacious air-conditioned apartments. COMMENT In June 2023 We found our apartment 205 for 10 days to NOTt to be of 4star standard at all. PRO: The bedlinen and bathroom towels were very clean and of good quality. The air conditioning worked. The ceiling fans worked. The apartment was spacious. The fridge worked but bottom of door shelving missing. Inconvenient if you wanted to store water bottles etc. CONS: ” Each unit at the Edge has a flat-screen TV”., which was NOT working and had to be re-connected by guest. “Free Wi-Fi” NOT available in unit 205 – we were informed by office unless you wanted to stand outside of office area to connect. Apartment was dark, - lighting in all rooms inadequate and woefully dim and outdated. Lighting in laundry area was badly positioned – and here there were no instructions on how machine worked. *Vertical Blinds in poor state and need maintenance or replacement. *All doors (screen and glass sliding) need maintenance to run smoothly. *The furniture was inappropriate (apart from 2 leather sofas) and badly arranged. *The ambience was noisy. The decor throughout the apartment – wasn’t.!! Except 2 pictures hung almost at ceiling. – 1 small mirror in dark hallway., and a wall clock. (All 15 years or more in age) *No rugs or furnishings to soften the décor or the echo sounding throughout the apartment. *Coffee table in bad state. *Dining table satisfactory but serviced by 2 different types of chairs. *The bathroom needed maintenance/upgrade (and pictures I have taken show much damage to outer base of shower, mould along the wall.) *The kitchens come equipped with very basic essentials. A microwave and dishwasher., utensils for cooking on very old worn stove. “Some units have balconies with sea or mountain views”, others, like ours, at 205 had overgrown foliage with NO views. The Edge Apartments Cairns has an outdoor entertainment area with barbecue facilities and free on-site private parking. *The Rain forestation Nature Park is 11 miles from The Edge Apartments. Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway are only a 10-minute drive away.
ゲゲストI really loved this motel as it was very Quiet during the day and night, even though they were full with guests. The motel was very, very clean, the beds were very comfortable and there was enough room for my two young children to play. The staff at reception were so friendly and helpful in arranging a ground floor unit for me. I have noticed that many hotels in Cairns are not staffed since Covid and it was so wonderful to have friendly staff available at reception and answering phones. Thanks for a wonderful stay. I will be back.
ゲゲストThe rooms etc in this hotel are old and tired looking, having said that the linen etc was very clean. The bedding was comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Id say Value for money is what you get at this hotel. Very close to amenities, walking distance everywhere
ゲゲストThis Motel was disgusting. It just smelt of cigarette smoke and a bottle of bleach. But the room was still dirty. The door did not lock properly. The shower had dirty shoe marks in it the fridge did not work and my food was spoiled. The bed was like a brick so uncomfortable and I only sat on it.I rang to get help with the fridge and they were not helpful at all.I had to move and spend more money on a motel. And still 2 wks later the manager won’t return my phone calls or emails will not refund my money.Highly recommend you never stay at this motel is absolutely disgusting. The fridge had mould in it.
