Quaint, unlike any other property we stayed in on our trip around this part of USA. It was also the only hotel we stayed at that provided proper cutlery and crockery for breakfast, which was very welcome. We liked the fresh cookies that were available most of the time. Coffee was always available in the foyer, but although the decaf coffee could be made fresh from a self service coffee maker, ordinary coffee was only available from a thermos, and wasn’t always hot, which could easily be remedied by providing other coffee pods for the machine Lighting and charging points in our room were inadequate (a fairly common problem at many of the hotels we stayed at.) Our room was not serviced during our stay, (we overheard other guests being asked whether they wanted to opt in for room service, but we were not asked). Receptionist also tried to charge us for breakfast and car park, until we pointed out that these had been paid for in advance.
Whether in the bar or the restaurant or the front desk, all of the staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The food in the restaurant was great. Hotel is in a great location. Right on the river with balconies facing it. It’s only a couple of blocks from the train station and downtown Durango. I do need to point out that the hotel is starting to show its age. Carpeting in the common areas needs to be replaced and the interior has the feel of something built some time ago. However, having said that, they are doing a good job with maintenance of the facility and most importantly, the hotel common areas and rooms were clean.
It is an experience, one that if you are only going to Durango once, you should not miss. The hotel is decorated as it likely was during the heydays of silver mining, in the downtown of Old Durango. The beds are small so choose accordingly. We had a twin in addition to our queen and were glad we did so. Bathrooms are small, but well appointed. No to the first floor so you need to haul your own luggage. I don't know about the other floors. There are multiple restaurants but we only tried the speakeasy saloon for drinks. Piano player was amazing and played ragtime that just beckoned for singing along too.
I was having surgery in Durango, because the room I booked was available they allowed me to check in way earlier than my designated time due to my operation. In addition, they provided me water bottles and complimentary snacks. I am a gold member and I have stayed at many hiltons. You could tell this location really did care about its guest as most other places would have not made the accommodation for my procedure. Everyone I talked to was very nice and tried their best to make accommodations. I would recommend anyone staying in Durango to stay here as the hotel is very nice and cares about its guests. 10/10 experience and I will be writing to Hilton as well to express my gratitude for their kindness.
Everyone was super nice......especially Kara.....sweet lady who loved to offer her advice on the town and what to do. She was also so patient with everyone during breakfast. Some guests came in after 9 and she didn't rush them to eat and just said, if u need anything just let me know and I'll get for u or help urself thru the door. That was soooooooo nice.
This OVER-PRICED Motel advertises a HOT BREAKFAST and it does NOT deliver, unless you consider one Belgium Waffle maker a hot breakfast. This is a $80 caliber Motel charging $130 only because they can. But for the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, this place would go bust. The train trip is well worth the visit, but suggest you stay elsewhere for the price. The Young man on the Desk during the day and afternoon was a true delight and is eager to be helpful. Im sure if he treid, he could get a better paying job with real advancement opportunity. The room was marginally clean. The bath tube was not. We were there two nights. It was cleaner after we showred! There is NO nightstand on the left side of the bed. The A/C is an old window unit place high onto a wall over the bath vanity. A bit noisy but it worked. The location is two mile from downtown and the train station. An easy commute.
BBiankaMWhile I can't complain about the price of this hotel. It did not live up to the expectations that I had. Location wise, it's near a fairly busy street and not only are the walls thin but there are gaps in the door so I heard every time a car passed by along with all of the commotion that happened outside.
Additionally, the photos that you see on the hotels website and reviews don't accurately portray what the hotel looks like in person. It feels like this hotel was attempted to be renovated and got halted somewhere in the middle.
