Wonderful place central location easy to walk to the sights. Very friendly staff keen to assist with making your stay as enjoyable as possible. Great spacious apartment with kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom with very comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast with beautiful fresh made local produce all prepared by a wonderful chef who is so friendly it feels like you have a personal chef. Highly recommended and Madeira is such a wonderful destination can’t wait to revisit.
My wife and I have just returned from the amazing Quintinha Sao Joao for the 6 th time and are already very much looking forward to returning in January 2025, and other dates next year. This shows how much we enjoy our visits and we come home feeling so relaxed. We feel that everything about this hotel is faultless. From the excellent food and service provided by Felipe (who is such a gentleman) and all his staff, the bar staff, the reception staff who are very pleasant and welcoming and not forgetting the wonderful Rosie in Guest Services who is always so cheery and helpful. She goes out of her way to ensure that you have all the information you require for Madeira, printing off bus routes etc. And advising things to do during your stay. She will book trips for you and nothing is ever too much trouble for her. The bedrooms and all areas of the hotel are kept spotlessly clean by the cleaning staff. The food is the best we have ever had the pleasure to taste. From the massive variety available at breakfast to the wonderful meals at night. The chefs do an amazing job and are great at catering for my wife’s gluten intolerance, without detracting form taste or quality of the meals. The restaurant and indeed the whole hotel is beautifully decorated and the ambience is so relaxing. My wife had 2 massages from Daniella and she found these to be so relaxing. The hotel gardens re kept beautiful, with lots of unusual plants and beautiful orchids. It is so relaxing sitting out in the garden bar and having a drink or something to eat. Several of the staff have worked at the hotel since it opened - 26 years ago, which shows you how well they are treated by the General Manager, Andre Barreto who is so pleasant. We re really looking forward to returning next Month.
We enjoyed afternoon tea at Reid’s last year, so decided we would book again Every one seemed to arrive at the same time, which made you feel as though you were on a conveyor belt waiting your turn to be called through to your table Sat overlooking the gardens, each table on the balcony was fully Enjoyed a glass of champagne, before they brought the tea, choosing Reid’s own blend… very good Sandwiches arrived, the waiter explained what each of the fillings were. I thought they were all rather bland and uninspiring except for the beef with horseradish. The cake selection was then delivered to the table, three choices of scones which were beautifully cooked and delicious, accompanied by, a single pot of jam, would look so much better in a small bowl, cream and butter An array of cakes were served, again apart from the strawberry cheesecake very uninspiring Staff replenish the pot of tea, as requested More sandwiches and cakes were available if required Bill for afternoon tea for two, with two flutes of champagne €156.00 Not worth the money

TTravel50665639157We picked the hotel for its proximity to the sea front, and to Funchal. This meant it was less than €10 for a Taxi to Old town etc, and also you could walk the Sea front Lido path (with its many bars/restaurants) going west. Our room looked out over carpark and mainly on the Atlantic Ocean, which was wonderful. Hotel bars, pool area, and Happy hour (50%) were all good
Excellent hotel. Clean in all public areas. Staff friendly and helpful. Housekeeping came every day. The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools, gym, and opportunity for spa treatments. The hotel is up a steep but short incline and about a 20 minute walk into Funchal. It's about a 30 minute walk to the Lido area. We had the buffet breakfast every day. There was plenty of food, hot, cold, pastries etc. You can also request your own omelette with a selection of fillings. Decaf coffee is in sachets. If you want extra tea/coffee in your room, you will be charged €5 each time you want to 'top up', so we bought a jar of decaf from the local supermarket! We paid €24 tourist tax for 10 nights, which we paid on arrival. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Well as a previous contribute has said I would ignore some of the negative reviews. What were people expecting The Ritz! We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Made better when we were given a free upgrade to a suite which came with two balconies. We found our room clean and spacious though bit disappointed you had to pay for the safe, however the fridge came in useful!. As vegetarians we had no problem with the food which is served as a buffet. We also made use of the dinner deal which allowed you to purchase 3 evening dinners for 84 Euros each. The hotel offers a courtesy mini bus however we found that you can purchases a bus token/pass which was really convenient (bus stop near by) and cheep at 1.30 euro a trip. Would recommend and would come again.
I booked this hotel for my husband's birthday via jet2. I was concerned leading up to the holiday about the reviews. However I can honestly say it was a wonderful holiday. The hotel complex is big, light and airy. I immediately felt very relaxed. Our room was very spacious on the 10th floor, the view was incredible and the sunset spectacular. Like others have said, before me, the floor to ceiling bathroom mirrors are not a feature I would want, but that's my only niggle. The food was really good, I'm really not sure what more people could ask for, there was always plenty of choice. We ate out in the Mamma Mia and Portuguese restaurant. It was really nice to be able to do that. Half board gives the dine around option. We also had lunch by the pool. No complaints about any, the food in all the restaurants was of a high quality. We used the spa, the indoor pool and the outside pool, all were clean and not crowded. I think what I liked most about this hotel, was it was relaxed, you are just left on your own, however if you needed something then the reception staff were more than happy to help. My top tip would be to scan the QR code or ask the hotel to give you a link to the website, theres a map and loads of useful information on there, which made planning our week so much easier. I think many people didnt do this as lots didnt know there was an indoor swimming pool with a sauna. I would definitely stay again, I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel (10th floor) to others. One of my best holidays.
We had room 1101, wow beautiful views and lovely rooms, bedroom, lounge, bathroom and big balcony. The hotel is great, food good and always hot. Staff are lovely. The only thing I found disappointing was the bar area on floor 1 had a lack of comfortable seating. The settees were past their best and there were only two. Sort the seating and this hotel would easily get 5*s from me.
BB8864XIsharonwAs an older solo female traveller, I was very pleased at the warm welcome and attention I received from Idalina and Filipa at reception, and their ongoing help with any queries. Due to gusty winds our flight from the UK had been delayed by two hours. I felt safe on my own at this hotel, and would recommend it. There was a security guard in reception at all times. I had booked tours of the island through my travel agent, Hays Travel, who use Lido tours. Idalina explained I would have to contact them direct. I highly recommend Lido tours, they sent me a text the night before a trip confirming the meeting place in the morning, and each guide was amazing in their own way. Idalina was also extremely helpful when I had to ring down with a query later in the evening. My studio room with balcony was on the 4th floor, accessible by either of two lifts or the stairs. It was very clean, with a small kitchen, fully equipped. It was a large room with tv, ample wardrobe space, a table and chairs, dressing table and chair, and twin beds. The bathroom had a shower attachment over the bath. I had received all information upon arrival, and was pleased the restaurant was still open at 2100. The restaurant offers a buffet and as a vegetarian my choices were limited. The restaurant staff are very professional, the Gala night on Christmas Eve was very pleasant. Location wise the hotel is a 45 minute walk from Funchal. The number 1 and 2 bus taking you into town are available from the bus stop on the main road opposite the hotel, and there are many taxis available. Across the road from the hotel is a small coffee shop, and a pharmacy. A few minutes beyond this is a large three storey shopping mall with a large supermarket on the lower floor.
EExplorer59064447531We spent a week at the Mimosa hotel at the beginning of August. The Tui coach dropped us off at the bottom of the steep hill up to the hotel. Checking in was efficient and both lifts were working up to the 6th floor, although there was only one lift working during the rest of the week. The balcony had a table and 2 chairs and the views of the pool and sea were amazing. The apartment was basic with 2 single beds, but no air con or fans and there was some traffic noise from the road. There was a shower in the clean bathroom, but we had to climb into the bath to use it. Although the kitchenette had a microwave and minimal amount of plates and cutlery, it did not have a kettle or toaster. The apartment, however, included a TV, fridge and hairdryer. Breakfast was included and offered ample selections of cereals, fruit, cheese, ham, nuts, cooked breakfast and bread and cakes, although the cooked food could have been warmer. There was also coffee, tea or fruit juices available, with inside and outside seating an option. There was an outside swimming pool (cool) and a toddler pool with plenty of sun beds surrounding them – also an inside pool. There are tennis courts, a Jacuzzi, sauna, spa and gym. The food at the pool side was very good and the bar staff were both friendly and helpful. The apartment was cleaned most days by cheerful staff. There was some entertainment at the pool bar, which everyone seemed to enjoy. The rooftop bar has fabulous views, but doesn't seem to be used to its full potential. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as local buses to explore the island and visit Funchal. Altogether this was a pleasant summer holiday for our family.
