I'll try to keep this simple. Exceptional hospitality at this guest house, if I was able to rate the experience higher than 5 I would. Let's be honest, you're not in the Burj Al Arab, I prefer it here, it may not be the height of opulence but it's a far more personal experience. I only stayed 1 night but the next time I'm passing through this is the only place I'll stay. Christopher recommended a driving route for the next day that was excellent, the fact that my Mercedes rental car broke 3 days later and had to be replaced is purely coincidental, cars are things and things break. 😉 If everyone else enjoys this establishment half as well as I did they will have a great time.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Earthbound Guest House during our trip to Oudtshoorn. We chose this guest house primarily for its proximity to the meeting point for the Meerkat Adventure experience, which is just a short 10-minute drive away. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly Ayla, who provided us with all the essential information about our stay and helpful tips about Oudtshoorn. To our delight, we also received a complimentary room upgrade. The location of Earthbound Guest House is convenient, with supermarkets and restaurants nearby—perfect for grocery shopping or dining out. Breakfast was delicious, the room and bathroom were spacious, and the WiFi connection was reliable. The bed was also incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. As a lovely touch, we were served dessert wine upon arrival. Overall, it was a truly pleasant stay, made even more special by Ayla's warm hospitality. We highly recommend Earthbound Guest House to anyone visiting Oudtshoorn!
Dd0minique0000We had an amazing one-night stay and Anzue is the hostess with the mostest! The bedding was beyond comfortable, despite the cold weather we were more than warm enough, we were able to have a great braai under the stars and the sheep at the guesthouse really provided you with that farm feel. Would recommend for large groups OR a break away from city life.
It could be an amazing experience but you can see that the staff are new, and probably also a little unqualified without intuition to make the guest experience enhanced. We had the coldest welcome in our whole South Africa tour, no explanation on any game activities other than a sheet of paper with the titles and price, we had to probe and question the front desk for information around timings, what to expect and where to go, which were given eventually but without a smile. It really felt like we were putting them out by being there and asking questions for the activités that we would pay extra for. Whilst we waited out the storm, we were asked if we would wait for the porter or make our own way to the room as it wasn’t far - we weren’t shown a map or location to our tent so we had no idea where to go. A simple explanation of the layout would have been appreciated and saved us all time. We don’t have highest of expectations however the basics of hospitality would include a warm welcome, a smile, and introduction to upsell their own activités (which were well worth it thanks to their amazing game drive hosts) however the front desk really did that team an injustice by lack of explanation. On top of that, the room wasn’t ready for the storm to come so there was water in the tent, which was also quite dirty already with vintage flies and it was missing some basic items such as a bottle opener for the wine and beers they provide. We asked twice at reception for a bottle opener, both times they didn’t mention they were not provided in the room, instead on the second ask they sent us to the bar, where the lovely bar man said he didn’t have one either and he opened his bottles with his ring. We were finally lended a bottle opener which was for sale in the shop… a basic if you are offering beers and wine in the room no? Overall a great location, fantastic extra activités and game drives, but really disappointing front desk with lack of information and enthusiasm for the basic requirements of the stay. We wouldn’t recommend to our friends coming to SA on this basis.
SsarahgW4357ZIFirst impressions of De Denne were excellent, the setting is beautiful, and our room (and our friends' room next door) each had a seating area outside and overlooked one of the pools. The sunset and then the stars were stunning. We had dinner at De Denne on our first night which was very good. Reasonably priced and very good service. Our first breakfast was good ... a small buffet selection was set up, and we were also able to order cooked food from the breakfast menu. However, on our second morning, we went in to breakfast and sat down. I asked the lady helping us if I could order from the cooked menu, as we all had the previous day, and was simply told 'No'. I was directed towards the buffet food and told that was what was available that day. There were no bowls for the cereal or yogurt so I asked for a bowl, and was handed one a few minutes later by the same lady who didn't even look at me when she handed it over. A little while later she then offered me the menu to order some cooked food, but I declined as I had already eaten something else by then. The lady then asked me 'If I was really okay or just saying that'. To be honest this spoilt the stay a little as I felt I was an inconvenience ... and I am sure this is not how you would want guests to feel.
