A wonderful little ryokan with an exceptional staff that went out of their way to make us feel at home. Incredibly helpful when it came to accommodating our dining needs as well as reserving a taxi. Lovely breakfasts and a superb Christmas dinner that we were able to reserve the day beforehand. Great baths, allowed for my partner and I to use their communal onsen even with us having a good amount of tattoos (we made sure to avoid using the baths when there were elderly/a large amount of patrons inside). Both my wife and I speak beginner's level Japanese but we put in an effort to communicate as best we can in the local language. That said, the staff was extraordinarily patient and helpful and met us on our level. This is all to say, English is not widely understood in this location but if you make an effort, use a translator, and practice basic courtesy, you'll be fine.
