I recently stayed at the Westin Kansas City Crown Center and had a frustrating check-in experience. 1. I couldn’t secure an upgrade through the Bonvoy app, 2. I was told I needed to go to the front desk, 3. Upon arrival, I was informed the hotel was sold out, despite 4. seeing four room types available online. The front desk said they would correct the error online, but it remained unchanged. I requested a call from a manager, which I never received. While I understand things don’t always go perfectly, the way this situation was handled left me feeling disappointed. The property itself seems a bit outdated, and given the higher ratings it receives, I expected more, especially when compared to other options in Kansas City. I hope Bonvoy members who value their loyalty benefits have a better experience here in the future.
Stayed here recently for a conference; requested and received Suite Night Upgrade to the Presidental Suite! WOW! Now, the hotel and surrounding area had been without power for the previous 22 hr and just regained it a few hours before I arrived. Suite was def warm- and I thought it was because of the power outage. Tried to turn up the fan which didn't change a thing. (in fact, I turned all 3 thermostats I found in there down to 60 and high fan and it never changed over 4 days! So- this suite is on the 38th floor and spans the width of the building so different views of the city from LR/DR and BR. Large 4 poster bed-- but there is a 4 inch ”ledge” around the mattress which is waist high to me (at 5-6”) making it extremely difficult to get into! Then discovered the bedside table and lamp was too far away to reach from bed...3 of the 4 pillows were incredibly lumpy- glad I only needed one pillow! Flat sheet on the bottom which wasn't long enough to be tucked in on top or side so it looked like a war had occurred in the morning (oh- and 2 comforters on the bed but don't know if it ever got cooler than 75 or so!). HUGE bathroom- big double size tub (but the row of lights over it had 3/4 of bulbs out), big steam shower with fabulous water pressure (but mildew on ceiling and amongst the marble tile), large bottles of fancy products in the shower (that could not be opened for those of you worried about that-I'm not, but see lots of angst about this). Several spots in teh BR had mildew, and lightening wasn't great for makeup. LR has 2 love seat sized couches (found some sort of canisters in between the seat cushions- ew!) large desk, table for 8 on the DR side plus a full kitchen (but a dirty black plastic serving spoon was on the stovetop!). Lots of nice artwork throughout. Carpet was stained in many areas. Never saw a TV remote though TVs were in the bedroom, bathroom and LR (didn't look real hard in LR, wasn't watching TV anyway, but thought it was odd). Housekeeping did come in after 2nd night, remade the bed with the same (wrinkled) sheets. Conference rooms were pretty darn cold. Oh, and did tell front desk that the AC wasn't working, but nothing changed. (Heard someone else on 38th floor complaining too). Lounge hours are limited- never made it there. Did have a bite to eat in the restaurant bar one evening- def not worth the calories or $. Unfortunately not much around open after 5 or 6, esp on a Sunday evening. Lobby is gorgeous, lots of seating in many areas incl tables with outlets for working.
Pros: Location - Proximity to streetcar & dining locations. Close to Convention Center Some rooms are large Large balconies Decent size in-room bar area with sink and mini fridge Pull-out couch Cons: Security - Doors to rooms do not latch fully without force. Can easily lean in to room doors to open. Noise - room to room noise, busy street, cars racing, constant sirens. But biggest issue is the noise from the A/C units. You will not get sleep here. Some staff - friendliness & competence vary widely. We reserved double queen room for multiple guests & were given a king instead. Front desk staff were neither sorry nor helpful. Said the hotel was full & nothing they could do. No offer to do anything. Cleanliness - almost everything about the room was dirty. Hard flooring not washed. Bathroom not clean (hair in sink, on toilet, on vanity, in shower). Hair on bedding. Not sure room was cleaned at all before our stay. There is also an unpleasant smell throughout hotel. Pantry - not a good selection.
Visited KC from New Zealand in June 23 with 2 things in mind, catching a Royals game and Tim Magraw in concert. The concert was a 10 minute walk away so it was the perfect place. The public tram stopped right outside so it was great to take us to museums and the market. The room was great, spacious shower and the concierge Robert was fantastic. Greeted with a big smile and the 3 days we were there that smile never left his face. Great restaurant Loeu'.s across the road made the Courtyard a great place to stay, The valet parking was very prompt and always friendly staff. The fresh cookies on arrival and when we returned every day were very good. Thank you to all inolved.
This hotel is a service disaster. We are sitting locked out of our room. It took 1.5 hours to check us in. They then charged us 800 more than our reservation and put us in the wrong rooms Someone was supposed to get in touch with us to move into the right size rooms and never did. Now we are locked out of our room as housekeeping somehow flipped the security latch and I am unable to get to an important event I flew to Kansas City for and have been told they can’t find housekeeping and there is no manager on duty. The engineer finally came with crossbar and suggested I damaged the door knob. It was loose when we checked in and I told the front desk. This is truly a disaster of a hotel- and I am a lifetime status bonvoy member!

Nice room the bed was super comfortable, they offer room service daily, it felt fresh and clean during the whole stay . Front desk great costumer service they even had fresh cookies during check in. I will come back to this hotel if I have to travel to Kansas city again in the future
