The hotel doesn't live up to 5 star standards. First impressions upon arrival were great. We received a class of prosecco during the checkin process, and there was a selection of cold meets, cheeses, and crackers to nibble on while waiting for our room to be ready. During the check-in process, we were offered enchantments on our stay I.e upgrade from half board to all inclusive and / or to upgrade our room. We were briefly advised that we could also avail of one speciality restaurant for the duration of our stay. I knew about this from researching the hotel previously. Our room was not ready so we had to wait a short while in reception. Staff advised that they would call on the mobile number provided with booking to inform us when it would be. Once we got the call, I approached the desk for our key, I was offered the key and no directions, I had to ask for these. The general impression of open hallways was that it could do with being brushed, but these are open, and I appreciate they can quickly get dusty. Our room appeared lovely and modern with a balcony, two double beds, and a smart Tv. The tv had around 4 English channels. The bathroom had everything you could need except a face cloth. The bathroom also had a sewage smell, which would get stronger throughout the day. The elevators are very, very slow, with some being out of order during our stay. The main reception is level 6. The restaurant is level 2, and the elevator situation can be a real hindrance for the elderly and the disabled when making your way to dinner. The alternative is to take two large stair cases up and down. I never once seen staff clean the reception area or open spaces. The glass bannister on the staircase was covered in handprints, and the public toilets on level 2 were not overly clean, with dust sitting thick on the rim of the toilet doors. Breakfast selection was very good. For dinner, my complaints relate to service and water charge. Some staff were fantastic at clearing tables, taking drink orders etc. Others were very slow to clear tables and unfriendly when approaching for drink orders. If you are half board, you are expected to pay for water. €3 per 500ml. This is not chatgable at breakfast service. I did hear the manager explaining to another couple that they could purchase a reusable bottle from the gift shop for €4 and have it refilled free of charge. This is also mentioned in their hotel app. I have never been to any other hotel and have been expected to pay for water. On our first night I ordered just one bottle of water not realising how small it was, the young water threw me a look of disgust and said just one? He then signed my expense docket, took the second sheet. When he returned with the water, it dawned upon me that with him taking the original docket sheet, I couldn't make a second order if I wanted an additional drink throughout my dining experience. They also don't return to ask you if you would like additional drinks. This
