We have stayed here before and really like it, and will return. The Westgate is in an excellent location and has a really good atmosphere and very good staff. The bed was very comfortable and the room pleasant. However, our experience this time did have some significant negatives: There was a lot of noise from the room above (a dog?) which, despite staff following this up, continued into the night and woke us up. Instead of the breakfast which is pictured on the publicity, we were informed that it would be a ‘continental’ breakfast. We were not given the opportunity to cancel and were not offered a refund. The meal was nicely presented but on the second morning felt very much like ‘leftovers’. I was not convinced that the pastries were fresh. In addition, no hot drinks were available as the coffee machine wasn’t working and no one seemed able to think of a solution (boil a kettle?!). Again, we were offered no other option than to accept things as they were. When booking a double room I do not expect most of the ‘spare’ space to be taken up by a single bed. It meant that there wasn’t room for both of us to sit comfortably in the chairs provided. Also doesn’t look good or feel welcoming! There was nowhere in the bathroom to put anything: no shelf, cupboard or towel rail other than a small one behind the door. This meant that keeping our towels - perfectly reasonable - was not great as they couldn’t dry properly. Our own toiletries had to go on the floor. I feel this could be so easily resolved! As I said, I do look forward to returning, but not in that room.
