First, I will say we made our reservations at least six months in advance. The hotel location was perfect. Check-in a breeze. (No, didn't like the $30 valet fee) We chose to stay in the cottages two nights (furthest back from hotel, near river - very quiet) and then in the hotel, room with balcony (#507) (view of Half Dome), our last night. We loved both! We requested microwaves in both and ate breakfast in the rooms before our hikes and/or tours. We had no issues with construction, we were out most of the day so it never bothered us. No blocked views either. The hotel sent us several notices stating the closure of the dining room and construction (I just made sure the construction was not near our room in the hotel), The view from temporary eating space was still beautiful. We had reservations for dinner at Ahwahnee but changed our minds and went to Degnan's Kitchen instead. Much less expensive and I don't like buffets. Stephen Townes, one of the concierge at the hotel, made reservations for us for the 'Floor Tour' and 'Yosemite at Night'. He was wonderful and again, we made those reservations early. There were several trails right outside the hotel that could take you about anywhere in the park. We walked down to Mirror Lake one day and then to Yosemite Falls the next day. So convenient! Each night we sat outside and watched the stars. We saw at least five shooting stars! They were so bright and on our deck the last night, we had a heater so could even stay out longer! There were fire pits outside the main lobby. I was sad to see some of the other reviews because we had such a wonderful experience. My advice - early reservations and if you have special request, make them ahead of time! Microwave, room with deck/view. Talk to the Concierge and follow up before your arrival. Loved the service from beginning to end. The hotel had such character in every nook and cranny! Yes, a truly memorable experience.
