There are no complaints about the hotel except for it should be classified at 4*. There is a lack of amenities and srrvices to qualify as a 5*. Also the breakfast doesn't live up to that. Staff was very friendly, the location is picturesque and the building and rooms beautiful.

We spent 1 night at Chateau de Riell. The property is truly beautiful and the staff very friendly (the dinner at the restaurant was very good too), but the castle and the rooms need a good upgrade. There are 2 swimming pools, one of them is on the rooftop, which is uncommon for an old castle - there is also a tennis court. The bar and some areas are weirldy decorated with an “out of Africa” theme which is very strange. Do not book the Cottage rooms: the standards are not up to a Relais et Chateaux. The furniture is very old (not in a good way), the equipment has not been changed in a while, the finitions are not good... we haven’t seen the rooms inside the castle but they might be better.

The Chateau de Riell was a wonderful experience on our trip to the Pyrenees. Our room was lovely, calming and charming (“Bambou”), the housekeeping staff attentive in a good way, and the views from the room were spectacular. The breakfasts were incredible and I’m picky! Don’t skip the croissant! It’s vacation! (Several kinds of yogurt— sheep’s milk, cow and goat, for instance, incredible baked pastries, fresh fruits, eggs to order, I can’t possibly do it justice but you get the idea). But what really distinguished this hotel from any other we’ve stayed in was the exceptional staff. The manager in particular went out of his way to help us; in fact all of the staff really went above and beyond. (My coffee spill in the morning on my white jacket was addressed by someone saying “We’ll take care of it, you’ll have it back tomorrow”— and they did). We felt that every need was met cheerfully and immediately. The grounds are lovely. After each day of hiking, it was wonderful to return to. We did sign up for the thermal baths in the related hotel— I’d highly recommend that as well, especially on your last day.

just returned home from a long weekend. a gem of a property. serene, beautiful, peaceful. fantastic service/staff. DELICIOUS breakfast. the restaurant was not what we hoped for [although it is so very beautiful. just not to our liking in terms of the food. but this could have been us....

As a self-proclaimed lover of food and wine. I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants on four continents and plan vacations around which Michelin-starred establishments I want to visit. Chateau de Riell deserves every accolade and honor that Relais and Chateau or Michelin bestows. Truly one of the most amazing meals I have ever enjoyed with some of the most unique and little-known wines to accompany it. Local flavors, charm and ambience, knowledgeable staff, and the majesty of the Pyrenees made for a most unforgettable experience. Give them a Michelin star! Two even!

This was our honeymoon straight after our wedding and it didn’t disappoint! We absolutely loved our room and of course the chateau itself and the surroundings and nature were also stunning. The staff were super friendly, efficient and helpful and we were particularly grateful for Henry coming to collect us from the nearby town when we got stranded without a taxi on the day of our arrival. Both restaurants served really great food and wine and the staff were brilliant there too. Overall, we had an amazing stay and are very glad that we chose this hotel as the place for our honeymoon.
