Dar Lys Luxury Riad & Spa

This review may be unusual as we ultimately didn’t stay at Dar Lys on our recent trip to Fes. But I wanted to share the very positive experience we had in dealing with the team at Dar Lys. They were exceptionally helpful and professional in communicating with us prior to our trip, in suggesting itineraries and day trips and in helping to organise our transport. Mourad especially went out if his way to help, much more than one had any reason to expect (thank you). Also, we ate in their restaurant at the end of our stay, the best meal of our trip, great service too, highly recommended.

Amazing stay, the staff is very friendly, multilingual and the hotel is very clean and traditional with a modern touch. The food is incredible, also during dinner there was an amazing performance. Thank you for having us and making us feel like home.

The Riad is a well-established hotel tradition in Morocco. We stayed in some very nice ones, but the Dar Lys in Fez is not one of them. All the rooms were located around a stone and marble courtyard, which means that the noise from the diners below continued deep into the night. Also, for some reason this riad insists on blasting pop music at all hours, day and night. I really don’t appreciate having Celine Dion singing in my room when we are trying to get some rest. What’s more, the beds are very hard; it took several layers of comforters to make the bed somewhat conducive to sleep. There are other riads in Fes with a more restful ambience; I suggest you keep looking.

Dar Lys is a new and beautiful Riad. Unfortunately it has lots of growing pains. Our room accommodations were nice, but we were a bit put out when a woman entered our room that was not part of the staff. The open air courtyard is lovely when you are part of the area. Unfortunately, all the rooms above the courtyard can hear every word in the courtyard. When trying to sleep, we could hear chairs and tables being moved and people yelling all night. Hopefully they will get this noise problem down as the accommodations are lovely.

I stayed in this hotel in March 2024. Mixed feelings: the hotel had several pros, but also a few cons. Pros: good location at the edge of the medina + if you have a car (which we did) there is ample, secure and free parking + rooms are really clean + good breakfast + very nice rooftop terrace & (small) pool. Cons: somehow this hotel has a need to play music from early in the morning to 22:30-ish. Music taste is subjective and if you are into Glenn Medeiros and like cheesy Scorpion versions you may like it, but for most it is not great + as it is on all day it is hard to relax in your room during the day. Then: staff start moving around at 7 AM with little regard for customers + as apparently there is no storage room all stuff (vacuum cleaners, extra chairs and pillows etc) is stored in the hall + staff is friendly but no more than that - a high level of indifference and there is no heart in it. This hotel has the ingredients to stand out, but it lacks the fine touches to really lift it up. Please stop the music, store equipment in a separate room and, most importantly, if the staff truly cared this would be a great stay. As it is, the price is too high: this hotel is NOT worth €175 p/n.For this price I would expect a truly caring staff which is not the case today. Simon.
