The hotel is in a great location on the cliffs above the sea front. Everything was very clean and staff friendly and polite. We particularly liked the outside terrace area at the front of the hotel. We arrived by train and it is about a 15 minute walk from the station. Didn't eat at the hotel so cannot comment on food.
Would certainly stay here again if we are ever in Southend on Sea.
Ideal location.
Welcoming and polite check in from members of staff. Didn't get chance to use resteraunt as we were in a hurry for an O2 Arena event.
Room was adequate for stay although shower head wouldn't stay in a fixed position, the toilet sprayed water at you when you flushed and it would have been nice to have a bin near kettle to put used tea bags etc in.
Checked around the room before leaving the following morning and found dog toys under the bed so obviously not cleaned properly before we arrived.
Fabulous location, if you need the airport. But, you have to bus/cab/drive into Southend/Rayleigh/wherever if not wanting the airport.
15min walk to various eateries, if you don't want to eat in the hotel, like Toby Carvery, Hungry Horse, African, fish and chips.
Majority of staff seen were happy and chatty, nice to see.
5* breakfast, would definitely recommend as had lots of choice.
Room was clean, included bed, desk, chair, armchair, safe, kettle, iron, toiletries, bath&shower.
Lovely hotel in nice grounds. Friendly reception. Decent room (we stayed in the Sartorial rooms) which was spacious. Good breakfast in the main restaurant although continental was a bit limited. Ate in the evenings at the cafe rather than main restaurant and food was good. Also lovely staff.
PPlayful+JoyfulThe hotel service is good. Just the restaurant and bar at the hotel is opened from 5-9pm. If you drive , the hotel offers parking. It’s not a problem for you that no restaurants around the hotel.
Anyway, the hotel meets everything you need.
I love the most is the senses of fire safety. Many fire extinguishers in the corridors of the hotel.
DDavina KingHotel was close to Colchester Station which was a bonus as my friend and I just needed to bed down for the night. Staff were friendly and welcoming but not always available. We had a curry next door as they recommended the food and it was good. Room was ok but noisy from the traffic in the morning outside the front of the hotel. Decor and furnishings somewhat dated but just about comfortable enough. Maintenance needs attention. Minor issues such as hairdryer not fixed properly to the wall and no option to switch shower head as the lever was missing. However phone didn't work when I called Reception several times on hearing the fire alarm sound. Turned out to be a false alarm but couldn't be too complacent. Tried the stairwell and was thankful that the exit and side door were accessible, unlike the main front door which had a set of keys dangling from it and was only unlocked when we left in search of breakfast. Overall mixed review.
Ggudetama_travelsThe swimming pool appeared quite big, although we didn't get a chance to use it. Our room was fairly roomy for two people, but with our group of four, it felt a bit crowded. It's worth noting that if you have heavy luggage, you might want to avoid booking a room on the top floor (second floor), as there are no lifts available in this hotel. The bathroom provided only shampoo and body wash, so you might need to bring or purchase your own conditioner.
The breakfast exceeded my expectations. Despite anticipating a traditional British offering, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety available, including English hot meals, a salad bar, a selection of cereals (there was Alpen!), milk alternatives (I particularly enjoyed the Oatly), and two coffee machines.
Their breakfast was so impressive that I will definitely consider staying at this hotel again when I visit Colchester next time.
ゲゲストThe room was good- clean, well equipped, + biscuits provided as well as tea and coffee! Can't fault it.
Can't comment on the breakfast (included in room price) as its not available at weekends until after 8.30 and I had to be elsewhere by then. From 7.00 in the week.
The thing that let the place down was the parking - or more the point , the lack of it. There must be 40 rooms but only space for 4 cars! All the other car parks around and there are plenty, had max 4 hour stay limit signs on display. Rather than risk a parking charge / fine I found some on-road parking 5 mins walk away and hoped the car would be still there in the morning (it was). If you want a chance for the 4 places you'll need to get there early afternoon - its bedlam there in the evening with the other pub and food outlet customers vying for space, well it was on Friday and Saturday evenings.
