Dar Antonia is located in the Sousse Medina ; a wonderful Tunisian palace, converted into a boutique hotel. It only has a few rooms, hence not a lot of staff and it may be difficult to find someone at times. The place oozes charm, but comes with some practical disadvantages : lots of stairs to get anywhere, open bathroom, open toilet, noise from other rooms, etc It has a very upmarket (= expensive) restaurant, where a sensational fresh breakfast is served. A great rooftop space with a ”pool”, but it is the size of a spa ; a superb place to have a drink, but it proved to be hard to order any, as they have to come from the restaurant, two floors down (by stairs). Overall, Dar Antonia is your best choice if you like authentic charm and are prepared to put up with the impracticalities that are inherent to an old building.
Currently staying at this hotel. Staff throughout the day are amazing but the bar staff at night are nothing but rude. Will openly ignore you but will be more than happy to bring drinks and cocktails to pretty young females at the table next to you, even though they haven't asked for them. We have tipped extremely well throughout this stay but unless young and pretty it counts for nothing unfortunately. We even took our used glasses back to the bar and ended up having 3 drinks in the sane glasses. Very disappointed guests.
