イントラ ムロス ホステル

Quite a small hostel, but in a great spot with lots to do and more social than many of the bigger hostels in Chania. I met plenty of travellers on the rooftop bar and in the dining room, and the volunteers are absolutely great with local knowledge and often willing to go on road trips on their days off. Sara was very friendly and showed me some amazing places around the city so definitely get to know her if you're staying before October 2024! Would definitely recommend Knossos and the archaeological museum (the buses are quite good), Amnissos Beach, and a trip Agios Nikolaos. La Brasserie in the town is a great place in the evenings and during the night too (be prepared to stay up until 3/4am)!

I decided to stay here because the hotel that I had booked wasn’t available until the next day. The hostel is easy to get to from Heraklion Airport and cost around €1.20 on the local bus, the closest stop is Agiou Mina which is round a 5 minute walk away. The facilities were good, the staff were friendly, the hostel was clean. There is a lockable cupboard in the room and air con. The beds were comfy and they offered privacy. The only downside was the air con, I was the furthest away from the unit, but it meant that I had hardly any sleep, another guest opened the window halfway through the night which made it a little more bearable. The hostel is around a 10 minute walk to the shops and local restaurants and a 10 minute bus ride to the main bus station. I would stay here again.

Had the pleasure of staying at Intra Muros. Initially I just came there to settle in, meet some new friends and venture out from there. My first night there I ended up meeting the most amazing people whilst traveling and needless to say I ended up extending my stay with them because the vibe there was so good that I didn’t want to leave. Have to thank the owner of the establishment who was there during the day and all the amazing volunteers that make my stay amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. My first day there I was invited to go on a sunset walk by David which led to me getting to know every one who was there which ended up at an amazing Greek Mexican fusion restaurant. After dinner which we ended up going out around town. David is a volunteer staying at intra muros and does a couple of hikes and tours around the area and around. If anyone needs any food option or advice on the local eating and drinking spots he’s your man. My most memorable moment staying at the hostel was the hike that we did up to the aqueduct and the second hike we did which ended at a winery for a tasting and charcuterie. Safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I’ll definitely be back next year. Thank you again to everyone who made my stay wonderful. Until next time.

Fab location, comfortable beds with large lockers, nice kitchen and fantastic roof terrace! The gals on reception were all adorable too (Noémie, Paola and the German gal whose name I didn’t get). Plenty of decent quality and clean loos also. Definitely recommended for a few days stay, a lovely hostel! If splitting hairs, it was annoying that the 6 and 12 bed dorms are situated right next to reception as well as the front door, and just down from the kitchen - there was a lot of noise every morning from staff chatting loudly with guests, and it was a pain having to walk up two floors to the shower rooms. The WiFi was also patchy. Guest check-in could also be improved - I messaged ahead to say I’d arrive at night after reception had closed and was told I’d be sent a code and instructions to get into my room - this never arrived (although I’m also partly at fault for not sending them a reminder!) and I ended up stuck outside at 3am, let in by a guest who happened to be outside, then had to wait 20 minutes for the owner to respond to my WhatsApp giving me the instructions. The next night we had to also let in two guests who arrived late, as the staff had gone out on a guest social and closed reception early! A bit more organisation would be good…
