Stayed at the Hoshinoya for a conference in Karuizawa. From arrival to departure, staff was lovely. There are two onsens, main one which opens around 0630 (and becomes public after 10) and a secondary for guests only. The larger one is fantastic - the outdoor pool looks up to a hill. The smaller one has no outdoor pool and is considerably smaller. The grounds are amazing. I spent some time walking around enjoying the calming sounds of the river and the magnificent trees. The breakfast venue is great. The food is clearly wellness oriented. I could have done with a more substantial protein based breakfast but that's not what you go to Hoshinoya for. The room is big by Japanese standards, very big. Two queen size beds and a private hot tub with large windows that can be opened. A generously sized living area overlooking the river and a large balcony, where I spent most of my time. Highly recommended.
ゲゲストThe accommodation is part of a golf club. Rooms are clean, modern and spacious. It has a golf course around the mountain. The place however, is not easy to find and not suitable for driving at night. Even driving out of the area can be a challenge if you are unfamiliar with the area.
ゲゲストMy mum and I really enjoyed our time at Hotel Marroad Karuizawa. The rooms were the most spacious we had ever come across in Japan and we could both open our suitcases comfortably. They were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The service staff were very professional and helpful as well. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet on one of our mornings there. Some of the drawbacks: the hotel is older in terms of style and design, although extremely well-maintained. Our room was on the floor above the lobby and there was no elevator, and there was no elevator or ramp from the hotel driveway to the lobby upstairs. The concierge was very kind to help us with our luggage, however. Overall, strongly recommended!
