When a post work drink takes you straight to a vision of continental cafe-bar culture.
The Dovetail is a small but mighty Belgian-stye pub on a back street in the Farringdon / Clerkenwell area.
To use a hackneyed old phrase, it's a hidden gem. It's understated and its reputation thrives on the back of a double sided drinks list with dozens of draught and bottled beers.
There's no chintz or pastiche of Belgium here, no flags waving, it's just a great bar that happens to serve that county's finest drinks.
If you want a 10 per cent bottle brewed by a monk, you'll get it here. The rest of the range is not for the faint hearted either, with high abv percentages everywhere.
For lounging about and dreaming of European shores though, this is the place to do it. Judging by the punters on ourvisit, it's also popular with discerning office workers who know a good pub when they find one.
It's just one of the reasons why this corner of London is my favourite drinking area. @Hurley2020 and I had a great evening here, at the Fox and Anchor, St John and The Hand and Shears. Highly recommend the route.
