VVassiaTo begin with, the hotel owner came out to greet us at the city gate and showed us the way to the hotel. She also offered to drive us to the train station when we were leaving at the end of the stay, which was very nice. All in all, Xuanxuan, the owner, was absolutely wonderful and has made her ancestral home a beautiful hotel.
The rooms were spotlessly clean, with bedsheets, duvets and pillows being very comfortable. The bed mattress is a little harder than in other hotels, but I prefer this and for my back pain it was better. The bathroom feels luxurious and is also very clean!
The room is spacious and has a little seating area as well which is nice. The hotel and the rooms have a security keypad, making it easy to get in an out, and it feels very safe. The room comes with all sorts of small things, like dental packs, a loofah, slippers etc.
The hotel is 50m from the main street, which is fantastic because you're close to everything, yet still tucked away for peace and quiet when you need it. I cannot recommend the hotel enough. It is beautiful, lovely host and great location. 10/10

RRoshan_hotmailWe had a fantastic stay here, largely thanks to the incredibly helpful and kind host. The hotel is housed in a 300-year-old building, giving you a beautiful, authentic experience of ancient China, but the interior is fully updated and very calm.
Arrival and Service: The host is highly organized. They arranged a free shuttle to pick us up the moment we stepped out of the Pingyao Gucheng railway station, and provided a free drop-off when it was time to leave. Upon arrival, the host sat down with a map, clearly explained how to navigate the walled city, and gave us great advice on what to prioritize.
The Room: It looks ancient from the outside, but it is a spacious, spotlessly clean, modern hotel room on the inside. It features a large flat-screen TV and a smart voice-control system for the lights. The bathroom was immaculate and entirely modern, complete with an excellent shower and a heated toilet seat. I cannot believe they provide a room of this quality for such an affordable price. It is truly worth it.
Location & Breakfast: The hotel is in a very convenient spot inside the Pingyao city walls, just a 10-minute walk to the evening light show. Breakfast is included. Rather than a standard buffet, they serve a nice traditional set meal featuring millet porridge (xiaomi), fried vegetables, and eggs (see my uploaded pictures).
I highly recommend this place if you want top-tier hospitality and a clean, comfortable blend of ancient atmosphere and modern convenience.

ゲゲストA pleasant family-run homestay near the northern gate of Pingyao Old Town, in a quieter area away from the main crowds.
The hosts are very kind, friendly, and genuinely helpful, offering a warm and personal welcome. The complimentary transfer to and from the train station is very convenient, and small gestures like offering fruits, snacks and local vinegar as farewell gift add a thoughtful touch.
The room is spacious, rather clean, and well-equipped, with modern amenities and even some smart home features. The bed is comfortable, although the bedding presentation could be improved slightly (ironed). There are also a couple of minor details—such as the bathtub not being firmly fixed—that could benefit from a bit more attention to ensure the safety.
Breakfast is simple and local in style, which many may appreciate for its authenticity, though it is relatively basic.
Overall, this homestay offers a comfortable and welcoming stay with a lot of potential. With a little more attention to finishing details and consistency, it could easily become an excellent choice for visitors.

I recently stayed at Tingbo Hotel and had an absolutely exceptional experience that deserves a full 5-star rating. From start to finish, every detail was carefully crafted, making my trip comfortable, memorable, and deeply culturally enriching.
The hotel’s facilities blend elegant new Chinese design with modern convenience perfectly. Rooms are spacious, quiet, and equipped with smart room controls, high-speed Wi-Fi, comfortable bedding, and sleek, well-appointed bathrooms. The hotel also offers a well-maintained gym, a 24-hour self-service laundry room, and elegant public spaces ideal for relaxation and photos.
Cleanliness is impeccable throughout the property. Rooms are spotless, with fresh linens, sanitized surfaces, and tidy layouts that create a welcoming and hygienic environment. Housekeeping is efficient and thoughtful, ensuring a consistently pleasant stay.
Service is warm, professional, and attentive. The front desk team is friendly and efficient, providing useful local travel tips and prompt assistance with any requests. Staff go out of their way to make guests feel valued, with thoughtful touches that enhance the overall experience.
A true highlight is the hotel’s complimentary Shanxi merchant costume rental service. The traditional outfits are well-made and authentic, perfect for capturing beautiful photos in the ancient city. ゲゲストWe stayed at thos lovely hotel. Lovingly restored by the current owner Mr Wang. He is the 6th generation owner of the property.
Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it
And it does feel and look like a traditional house.
You feel you are going back in time.
Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs.
He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city.
Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions.
Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him.
Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm.
On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour.
Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class.
The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved
The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk.
The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

ゲゲスト自駕到古城，老闆娘給安排了古城牆下的停車場，20元一晚，客棧離西門停車場非常近，非常方便。客棧在古城步行街邊上，古典有特色，春節來院子裏大紅燈籠高高掛，十分喜慶，客棧十分適合旅拍，在客棧就能完成，期待旅拍的照片。老闆娘非常熱情❤️
