This was a wonderful overnight stay in the Rioja region on our travels through northern Spain. On arrival the reception staff were efficient and friendly, and able to sort out some secure parking around the corner from the hotel premises. Our very comfortable bedroom was more like a small apar**ent with a hall, living room, bedroom and bathroom. The ground floor dining rooms, bar, lounge, and foyer areas have maintained the ambiance of a grand old building, but with a touch of luxury. We took the half board package enabling us to enjoy a superb dinner in the fine dining restaurant where there is an extensive choice on the menu. I can recommend the potato and chorizo stew starter, the duck as mains, and the pear and almond waffle as a dessert. The morning breakfast provided the usual good selection expected in a high standard hotel. This parador (there is another in the town) is located in the heart of this small historic town in the plaza adjacent to the main church. We arrived on a Saturday and were fortunate to enjoy watching the excitement of a wedding taking place from immediately outside the hotel. A very enjoyable stay.
