Fabulous boutique hotel with the friendliest staff. Located between the south coast surfing beaches and city of Galle. Nothing is too much trouble here and everyone’s smiling - especially the guests! Exceptional authentic Sri Lankan and international cuisine. We’ll be back soon.

We stayed at Why House for the final three days of our honeymoon and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The gardens, pool and rooms were in immaculate condition and everything was the perfect balance of tasteful yet inviting and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and our dietary requirements (vegan and pescetarian) were thoughtfully catered for. The property is close to a lovely beach and Galle is a short tuk tuk ride away. Thank you to Henrietta, Lettie (an adorable Dachshund) and the team for a memorable stay. We hope to return!

I had an amazing experience at Why House! The property is beautifully maintained, with a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The pool, surrounded by lush greenery, was a highlight—perfect for unwinding. The staff, especially James and Dilu, were incredibly attentive and ensured I had everything I needed. I absolutely loved their iced coffee, the delicious Sri Lankan lunch, and the festive drinks served during the Christmas carol event. Overall, it was a delightful visit, and I highly recommend Why House as a must-visit!!

All the 5* reviews are true, the best place to stay in Sri Lanka. Tucked only minutes from Unesco World Heritage site Galle and stunning beaches, The Why House is a luxury Boutique hotel and , near Gallean oasis of calm and elegance. The rooms are beautiful and the food exquisite, not bettered by any of the other places we stayed on our tour. The reason to choose the Why House is Henrietta the English manager/owner but really the best House party hostess you have met. Greeting all warmly, introducing guests to each other and making the whole stay the most brilliant fun. She has devoted staff who have worked for her often for 13 years who drive you in Tuk Tuks or cars safely to all the places to see, she even lent us her wonderful driver Pulindu for a 4 day loop to Kandy. I was almost loathe to leave such a glowing review for fear that it will be fully booked when we want to return.

Our stay in Why House was an absolute joy, the cherry on top of a fantastic honeymoon in Sri Lanka. It brings all the best elements of the hospitality and bespoke welcome of an English Country House hotel to the glorious surrounds of Galle. We were made to feel like honoured guests in this wonderful slice of tropical paradise. Henrietta and her staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and we felt like we were part of the furniture within hours of arriving. We really enjoyed how we were gently encouraged to socialise with the other guests, but there was no pressure when we sometimes preferred to keep our own company. The room was clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished, the food is superb (we particularly loved the generous fresh fish platters) and the staff ever attentive and friendly. We couldn’t recommend Why House more highly and hope to be back soon.

Why House is an amazing hotel in a beautiful setting with amazing staff and a friendly atmosphere. There is so much to do in and around it and everyone is so helpful! The food is next level and I particularly recommend the Banana bread, but every meal here left me smiling and thoroughly satisfied.
