This hotel is in a beautiful building that was originally a house. It's sits on top of a very steep hill and therefore has excellent views of the city below. The incline is a difficult walk but there is a bus that drops ypu right outside from the city centre (number 31) . Recommend this option after a day of walking ! It's about a 10-15 min walk straight down the hill into the city,along a busy raod . However, the hotel is quite close to the Royal Crescent. I recommend walking that way into town as there is less traffic and a wonderful park (Royal victoria park) that leads straight into the heart of Bath centre. The park also has a botanical gardens should you want to visit plus an excellent play park for children. Landsdown Grove is a good option if you enjoy being close to the attractions in Bath but with a bit more peaceful surroundings. The hotel sits in its own gardens but when we were there , there was a lot of building work going on. I understand this must be done to maintain the building but the gardens were littered with workmans equipment, parts taped off and drilling ,banging and loud talking from very early in the morning. Workmen were also at room windows, making it slightly uncomfortable. Not sure why unoccupied rooms can't be done first or even later in the day when people are out. We booked a patio room. The doors opened out onto a little garden with table and chairs. The patio was shared with 2 other rooms which was fine as it was spacious. The rooms can be accessed via the grounds instead of walking through the hotel. However , this seems to be a gathering place for staff on breaks . This didn't bother me as such but when the builders were gathering there at 7 in the morning, talking loudly etc, it was off putting to sit out and enjoy a coffee. This wasn't very relaxing. At night though , it was quiet and even manged to see a friendly fox that visited each evening :) The room itself was accessed inside through a maze of corridors and steps. Wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues or prams. The room was clean , can't fault that. People have commented that the hotel is dated. It's an old building and it's huge. It's is dated in parts but that's to be expected. The issue I had was more that the cleaners items (hoovers , cages of laundry ,cleaning trolley) were littering the hallways and the builders tools littering outside in the grounds ,making it dangerous at times to navigate . The grounds also seemed neglected which is a pity. Our room was cold , even when I turned the heat up. It had tea and coffee making facilities and a mini fridge. Bathroom was nice with plenty of towels and hot water. The room decor was bright. Not a lot of space to move around though. Staff were friendly and helpful and aside from the manager (?) In the restaurant ,were knowledgeable about customer care. Restaurant itself was a huge let down. Breakfast was ordered from a menu , which I like because it's usually hotter. However, both m

Went for a drink at the Grand Atlantic hotel, Barman was friendly but the two men on reception were a disgrace, one wearing a baseball cap and the other a t-shirt with hugo boss written in large letters on the back not very friendly, not exactly a good impression from a Hotel with Grand in the title. over heard the one with the baseball cap swearing and bad mouthing management and someone called Dee then the two went out smoking on the steps leading into the hotel, not a great welcoming to guests coming into the hotel. I think the management need to have a re think on the type of people they employ to represent a Hotel with Grand as a title.

Can not fault this b&b for the price well mannered owners/staff always happy to help rooms clean and tidy and bed very comfortable 1st night sleep where I’ve slept for over 8hours without waking up and I’m a light sleeper didn’t ever hear them in morning cleaning other rooms ready for next guest would defo recommend 😷

Scott and Judith exceed your expectations nothing is too much trouble. Rooms very clean with all amenities. Rooms serviced everyday. Children very welcome. Breakfast cooked fresh and is amazing. Location great for the sea, bars and shops. Pet friendly. Been there many times and will be visiting soon. Free use off downstairs lounge with massive television, microwave and your welcome to bring in a takeaway. Cutlery and plates provided. An experience not too be missed.

From arrival to departure, the staff at South Sands were absolutely lovely. Nothing was too much effort for them. I can honestly say they appeared to appreciate us being there. From keeping bar services available beyond the advertised time to ensuring no one was left waiting. Highly recommend this hotel. There are areas that would benefit from a bit of an uplift, which prevents a higher star rating. However, this is totally understandable since most reasonably priced hotels appear to be battling to survive at the moment.

Arriving at the location, I was happy to see that they had decorated the area with a Halloween theme, giving it an extra-special feel to the stay. The gentleman, Rufus Coombe, is extremely polite and gives a very warm welcome to the hotel. Checking in took little time and was straightforward with no hassle at all. Having gone out to bowling, we would return around 10pm ish to be greeted with the same warm welcome from Rufus. The room has a double bed, a single bed and a pull-out bed. Clean, tidy and ready for our stay, we found it to be an excellent choice for our one-night stay before we go to lovely Butlins. We did take advantage of having a lovely hot bath with zero complaints about the condition or quality. The only issue we had was the lack of towels as we are a family of four but only had two towels. I had a quick chat with Rufus and that was solved very quickly with new towels being given to us. The bathroom offers its version of soap, towels, floor mats and a shower including the bath. We found it to be a great stop-off and would recommend this location for your stay, I would like to say thank you to Megan, a surname we are unsure of and Rufus was unsure of the name, for decorating the hotel with the creepy Halloween them, which was extremely good to see.

Stayed at this hotel in may 2024. Slept well. Although in the centre of town, noise from the outside world is minimal. Amazing staff, friendly and informative. Room is decorated to be welcoming and is exactly that. I was in the apartment which is very spacious and more than appropriate for a family. Although no parking with the hotel, there is parking 2min walk away which is very cheap for 24hrs.

Male at check in could not have been more miserable, uninviting and hated life more if he tried. After grunting his way through the booking and sliding a piece of paper to sign and then sliding the key to me I wasnt quite sure if we had finished the transaction as there was no guidance from himself. I said are we all done and as he grunted at me I assumed we were there so I left to find the room. The room was on the ground floor. Bathroom was grotty and the flush just poured out water for half an hour a time every time it was used. Bed was small. Room was dated. Phone was dirty and covered in whatever finger juice had congealed over many years. The carpet was threadbare. The room was an embarrassment to be fair. Went into the bar to get food. Asked for the tablet, the member of staff was busy swearing with the ”regulars” and I felt as though I was causing her problems but she obliged. Ordered a Magners via the tablet, an Astril was dumped on the bar. I left it as that wasnt my order, then was barked at by another woman that was my drink ”but she was too busy to bring it over”, granted there were 2 people at the bar at the time. I said I didnt order that, she told me I had, I assured her I hadnt, then lo and behold they apparently had no Magners so I took the Astril for ease. The food was a pizza which in reality was a burnt base with some mush chucked on. Horrible. Back to the room, good sleep. Breakfast in the morning. No knives, no beans. 2 members of staff having a yap, interrupted them and got what was needed, they went back to yapping. Check out the food and everything was sorted by the company. The receptionist told me it wasn't. I asked her to check as I knew it was, she said I have but I will check again. She told me no the company dont cover it. I assured her they do and this time showed her the booking. She called someone else over who told her to bill the company if thats what i wanted. I left and then they proceeded to moan about me not accepting that the booking was not including food so I had to return and have more of the same conversation. As a diamond elite member this hotel is an embarrassment to the brand. The staff are rude. The rooms are inadequate and dated and the check in and check out process is shambolic at best. Need to do better. Wont be staying there again.

We made a last-minute booking and the hotel were so great in accommodating us. The reception was easy to find and we were greeted warmly by Erin. We had to make another booking the same night to accommodate another family-member and Erin was a great sport in giving us adjoining rooms and relocating us upstairs, including helping with all our suitcases and bags. The level of service here is akin only to what I've experienced in the Caribbean. A true care and warmth with a willingness to go above and beyond unasked. For this I give them an A+. The premise of community support and involvement is admirable and training up of youthful staff, grooming them in truly 5-star service standards is definitely welcomed! Other hotels would do to learn from them! In the morning of our departure, our things were whisked downstairs, again with a genuine joy in helping. We didn't get everyone's names, but our gratitude to Erin, Maisie, Alex and so many more who made difficult personal time for us into a comfortable, relaxing one. Loved the rotation of cookies daily and replenishment of assorted teas. My only advice would be for them to place non-skid bath mats in the shower trays and to install handrails, but otherwise, there is little to be faulted. We look forward to returning in the future!

I booked a deluxe double room for just one night. We were very happy with our room, which was spacious, clean and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The welcome from Reception was warm and friendly. There is parking at the hotel but this is run by NCP and costs just under £10 for a 24 hour stay. Payment is via an APP so I suggest installing that on your phone before you arrive. There is not the option to pay by cash or card at the machine. The hotel itself is very charming, with individually decorated bedrooms and a host of period features and furniture in the public rooms. We were meeting my son for dinner in a nearby restaurant for dinner so cannot comment on the Dining Room and we opted out of breakfast as we had an early lunch arranged. We did enjoy some cocktails in Brazz, where the service and quality of the drinks were appreciated.
