I was really worried after reading some reviews, but the hotel was lovely! Very central in a really good location. It was a 2 minute walk from the tube. It had Tesco express, boots, pubs, cafes and shops right opposite. It was cleaned everyday. The room was lovely! Had everything you needed. Perfect place to stay for a couple getaway to London.
Had higher expectations based on reviews and was excited to try out the Blackbird. I'll start with the good stuff. Firstly both the girls on reception were very friendly and all staff we came across, young american guy at breakfast can't knock them, all polite and friendly. Breakfast was very nice and delicious and set us up nicely for the day. Coffee machine and chocs in room nice touch and the beer in the fridge, waters etc. Bed was comfortable! Now for the rest... The room looked nice upon entering we stayed in Jacques after booking a superior room. On checking in the room was dirty, used coffee cup on the side, sugars on the side, spoon had been used, stuff in the bin, sink covered in dirt and a bath mat on the toilet covered in mud, the hand towels had been used. I popped down to reception and a friendly girl helped me, apologised profusely and got me clean towels and emptied the bin and got a new bag, offered us complimentary drinks as an apology. Fair enough, these things happen apparently a plumber had been in and it hadnt been checked afterwards. But the rest wasn't cleaned again and I ended up cleaning down the sink myself and washing the spoon etc. We then had no sugars, no milk to have with the coffees (not sure if this was missing too or they just don't give them) . The lifts noisy and right outside the room and the housekeepers use it in the morning so we got woken up, and we also got woken up by a member of staff on reception at 2am calling us by mistake asking if we called a taxi, not a good mistake to make waking your guests up at 2am, not very professional. Then in the morning whilst looking for the hairdryer, there was rubbish in the drawers and loose screws and bolts, weird stains on the chair and everything on the desk was dusty. Basically I felt like it wasn't worth the money, felt a bit miffed off and I am glad we were only there for one night.
There's something special about a hotel that makes you feel like you're the only guest while being fully booked. The sound insulation is remarkable, the room service is discreet yet prompt, and the way the staff remembers small details about your preferences makes each stay feel personalized. The bed comfort alone deserves its own review
