Had a lovely stay at Scenic Hotel Marlborough to end off our trip in New Zealand. The hotel room was much bigger than our previous hotel stays, where we could comfortably open both our large-sized luggage to repack. Apart from the spacious rooms, we love how clean the toilets were and how tidy our rooms are done up by room service each time we return from our day out. The stand out however, was the service provided to us by the staff. We arrived around midnight as we had a long drive from Fox Glacier to get here but the staff was ever ready to receive us, and even gave us recommendations on what to visit around Marlborough during our stay. During our stay, there were occasions where we opted to buy food back to enjoy in our hotel room and the room service was readily available to provide us whatever we needed to have a lovely meal in, including plates, wine glasses and even condiments. Highly recommended!!
First accommodation with unlocked sky tv which is pretty useful for rainy days! Large and clean room, friendly stuff giving also some recommendations around the hotel.
The hotel quite near to picton railway station. Walking distance less than 10mins. The front desk customer service quite friendly and their welcome drink really impressed me. But 1 thing need to take note. Hotel doesn’t have lift . So if you stay at 3rd floor, you have to carry your luggage go up to 3rd floor. So for elderly, please take note
KKultbueroWe stayed at Portage Hotel as a family with three children and chose it as one of the final stops of our four-week road trip. It turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our journey.
We were genuinely impressed by the location, the service, and the overall facilities. The setting is simply stunning, peaceful and scenic, yet the hotel offers a wide range of activities, which made it perfect for traveling with kids.
Despite being high season, the staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and truly customer-oriented. You never felt rushed or overlooked, which is not always a given during busy holiday periods.
We especially appreciated that many activities are included at no extra cost, such as canoes and stand-up paddleboards. There is also a pool, which was a big plus for the children after long days of exploring.
The rooms are well equipped and thoughtfully designed. A small but lovely detail was the beautifully scented selection of shampoos and creams provided in the room, which added a very pleasant touch to the stay.
The value for money feels absolutely justified. The food was good, the drink selection more than sufficient, and the wine list offered something for everyone.
All in all, a fantastic place for families and travelers looking for comfort, nature, and genuine hospitality. We would happily return and can highly recommend the Portage Hotel.
ゲゲストWe took this as a 2 day getaway, expecting it to be top notch... especially given the price of $480/night PLUS $120 each to get there by water taxi. We stayed in Endeavour unit 18.
Unfortunately, for the price, it fell well below expectations. No kitchenette as advertised, no TV, the 'King size bed' turns out to be 2 single beds of different elevations pushed together, with a 'step' between them. There IS a spa pool, but contains more filth than water - it was truly disgusting. In The restaurant we ordered an expensive meal but quickly found the Cray fish was far from fresh and the lamb rack was more sheep ribs than Lamb(!) We ate it, just because of where we are and it wasn't inedible, but for a meal that cost over $300 with wine it was a long way from what we would expect elsewhere at even close to the same price point.... and before we had even finished our meal, at just 8pm having sat down at 7pm, we were told the place was closing and could we please finish in our room.
Although we had already paid for the 2 nights, we left after just 1, with no refund for the unused night - truthfully I didn't push the issue, I just wanted to get home.
Will never return.

ゲゲストThe facilities were fine. The double room we reserved came with only that.. a double bed. Not even a nightstand next to the bed or a table in the room. There was also no heater or fan and the room felt musty with a bit of moisture in the air. Could use a dehumidifier when it's raining out like it was this day/night. The other guests in the hotel were the problem. I was woken up at 4AM by someone upstairs in the smoking area chatting so loudly on their phone... I had to get out of my bed in the middle of the night and ask them to go somewhere else or end their call. It was absurd. In the middle of the night someone cooked a very fragrant meal that made the entire building smell - it was so intense that it even permeated into our room which was the furthest room away from the kitchen... not a great stay when you can't even sleep through the night and feel like you are sitting in the middle of someone's meal.. Not worth the price
