JJoyfully RetiredThis was the best hotel of my entire trip. It was spotless, andvery well laid out around small courtyards. If I were traveling with a large family , I would request rooms on the first floor that open out into the same courtyard . There were multiple common spaces that were comfortable and interesting. The laundry room was properly equipped and the staff showed me how to use the appliances. Breakfast was delicious, with a variety of hot dishes, noodles made to order, a coffee machine with excellent coffee, and fresh fruit.
The hotel was well located. It fronts onto a quiet tidy alley, one block from the chaotic (and fun) pedestrian food street and shopping street. It was an easy walk to the Shanxi Province group of museums.
I do have a few suggestions.
1. My taxi from the train station could not find the hotel. He left me nearby but I wandered around dragging my suitcase for a good half hour until the six people who joined in to help, were successful! It would help to improve the location identifiers in Amap, and any other map a guest or taxi driver might need.
2. When I asked the front desk for help arranging a taxi to the train station the afternoon before my departure, I was given to understand that I should just go out and hail a taxi the following morning. At 7:00am, there were no taxis anywhere nearby. I ended up walking a kilometer with my bags to take the subway. So…even though the service is great, don’t count on hotel help with transfers. Leave yourself plenty of time and have a “plan B” when you depart. The location is not easy for a taxi to find - cars cannot enter that alley!
