The hotel/ryokan (really seems like a mix of both) is a good base for exploring the surrounding area. It is very close to the train station, but located in a quiet area. Thus, taking the train to Akita, Kakunodate, Akita-Komagatake or Lake Tazawa, or Yokote is easy (the cheap local train does run quite infrequently though) and the Hanabium in Daisen itself is also interesting.
Your experience in the hotel will depend a bit on your Japanese language proficiency though, as the nice grandmother running the place is great to interact with and accommodating, but can only speak Japanese. The breakfast is prepared freshly for you, so you have to give a breakfast time, but it also meant that it tasted well.
Overall a especially for the price good place to stay at!
