This is the most beautiful old hotel in Leicester, and I have a strong sentimental attachment to it, but it clearly makes its money through hiring the glorious ballroom out for corporate events at the expense of anyone actually staying there.
I had asked for a quiet room but was placed at the front which is already noisy due to the busy street, and then was not warned that a ridiculously, horribly loud function was taking place right below me in the hotel. It was like trying to sleep above a particularly nasty nightclub playing diabolical music. There were drunken corporate goons falling in and out of the door and I was treated very disrespectfully by the receptionist when I finally went downstairs to complain near to midnight.
Guests are clearly not important. I strongly recommend calling before you book to see if this is going to happen on the dates you choose. I was in town for an extremely important job and arrived tired and late due to being kept awake for hours.
A great location,easy accessible from M1.
This hotel has lost its way, would only call it a 2 star not 4 star. Food was average, my dinner guest received their meal 8 minutes before mine arrived. (There were only one other couple in the restaurant and the same happened to them) No cutlery was supplied until mine arrived. I have never seen a jug of gravy so congealed it wouldn't pour and tasted very salty.
The grounds could be amazing but are unkempt and littered with cigarette butts and other rubbish. There seemed to be minimal staff on duty.
Unfortunately I would not stay again.
The rooms were spacious and well-lit, with a simple yet elegant decor. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep without any disturbances.
Great hotel. Close by to the motorway meant convenient but quiet. The spa facilities were excellent. The steam room was very effective, which isn't always the case in many hotels, even shortly after opening first thing in the morning it was up to temperature.
Room was clean and comfortable.
As for the restaurant, I'm still wondering when the potato shortage started in this country! My fish and chips could have done with some more chips. There were so few they were able to hide them all under the piece of fish! That's a shame as the food was really nice.
Would definitely stay again and will look out for Leonardo again in future as a previous stay somewhere else was really nice.
