The hotel lists itself as Crown Plaza (not Crowne) on trip.com to get initial interest from people, but locally brands itself as the JT Crown Holiday Hotel. It has pleasant enough service, but is in no way comparable to standards of four star hotels outside China.
The hotel looks ok on the surface, but there are telltales that give away the poor quality of construction. In our room, the shower enclosure came off the wall, and in the room we were speedily changed to, the toilet was blocked. Despite the service that had come before, the maintenance guy simply told us to use the **** stained bathroom and toilet once he had finished unblocking it, and did not attempt to sort it out.
The breakfast tries to create a facsimile of a higher level hotel breakfast, but all the materials are cheap. The fruit juice is made from a powder, and was warm, as one small example. They try to put on western parts, and so serve fried eggs and french fries. The eggs are fine, but all other items are just made from inferior materials.
The room itself looked ok, but the towels were thin and threadbare. The carpets had to be revacuumed to make sure the dust and must was taken out of them. The beds and pillows were nice enough, and the decoration was reasonable, if a little rough around the edges.
There are only two lifts for all the floors of rooms, which points to it being an older building, and there are lots of little weirdnesses, like the entrance to the parking area being on the wrong side of the road.
The whole thing looks like a local hotel that was built inexpensively to host fancy local weddings at a price that locals could afford (there were many weddings each day here during the national day holiday).
Those who are backpacking and looking for a bit of luxury will find it ok. Those who know what international brand hotels have to offer will spot the many flaws in quality and not be satisfied.
We were disappointed, and from the complaints in front of us at the front desk, we were not the only ones.
