"We drove from Alberta to Newfoundland during July and arrived in North Sydney a day before our ferry crossing. With no reservations, we stopped at multiple motels that did not allow pets (we traveled with two small dogs). I asked the owner of the last place I tried, which motels allowed pets, and was told the Clansman. Upon arriving at the Clansman in the early afternoon, I asked for a pet-friendly room. The lady at the reception desk told me a room was available but was not yet cleaned. She told me to come back in an hour. Sure enough, they had the room ready when I returned. The check-in was very friendly (the gentleman even told a story about my hometown in Alberta. The room was dated but very clean. It had all of the amenities you would expect from a roadside motel. The bathroom was updated, and the room had a new mini-split system that cooled the room nicely since it was quite warm out at the time of our stay. A bonus was the restaurant on site where we ate dinner. Due to the heat, they had a reduced menu. I had the fish and chips, and my wife had a clubhouse. The food was delicious with large portions. The only hiccup was the waitress wrote the wrong table on our bill, and we were given a cheaper bill of the older couple at the table next to us. This was an easy fix. The bed was comfortable, and we were able to get a relaxing sleep since we had a very long trip in a very short time. We woke rejuvenated to catch the ferry in the morning. While the motel looks dated, it has an outdoor pool, a great restaurant on site, and many areas to sit around the property. There are also newer cabins on-site. If you are in North Sydney, the Clansman is a good place to stay."

"The house and the restaurant together, the room is small and clean with a refrigerator microwave. The bathroom is big enough, the equipment is novel, and the bed is good to sleep. Just at the exit of Cape Breton, the location is convenient, ten minutes drive to the port to Newfoundland. Recommended!"
