"Unfortunately, our stay at Fennessy's Hotel was extremely disappointing. The hotel itself is very outdated and, throughout our stay, we found it to be dusty and unclean in many areas. The overall standard of cleanliness was poor and the property felt neglected. We had booked a double room but were given a room with two single beds instead. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were filthy, worn out and appeared to be years old, which made for a very poor night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was also disappointing, with very limited options and a lack of quality. What left the worst impression, however, was the interaction with a member of staff at breakfast. We were asked if we had finished our food and were then immediately reminded that check-out was at 11am, which made us feel rushed and unwelcome rather than valued as paying guests. Overall, this was a very poor experience and certainly not what we expected. The hotel is in desperate need of updating, improved cleanliness standards and a more welcoming approach to customer service. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend staying here"

"We had my Mum’s retirement meal last weekend at Minella which was pre booked and paid for well in advance for 40 people. To summarise the experience we were sorry that we held this event in Minella. They put us in the bar with two long tables (neither at the same side of the room) which were far apart from each other and with other dining families and couples amongst us. We had thought there was a mistake and I went to reception and asked the staff if we were not supposed to be in the function room as this was not appropriate for a retirement function and they tried to fob us off saying that the hotel is fully booked and that apparently in order to have a private function you need to have minimum of 60 people. I found out afterwards that this is not the policy and that there was a private party the same day with less then 30 people…. After back and forth with the staff we were told to go back into the bar area for the moment as they had nowhere else to accommodate us and they’d get the manager and come back to us. They never did and as such we ended up having to order and just leave it as we had nowhere else to go and elderly family that needed to sit down from travelling far. I also asked if they could at least put the tables together but they said the room wouldn’t allow for that with tables that size beside one another - Ironically. My mum was upset, and had made a speech for this event as family had travelled far for the retirement and she had to abandon plans of any speech because of this. She also had to walk across the “dining room” multiple times to talk to relatives as we were in close proximity seated. Food was ok at best - I have to give credit to the waiting staff; they were very attentive. I will say the dessert table was wheeled out in the bar room prior to our starters as naturally other diners were having their dessert however we were not aware that we were also part of the dessert table and by the time it got around to us later, there was not many desserts left to choose from and they never replenished them so whatever was left was what we were offered. We didn’t let it dampen the celebrations but I will be and have told many people already not to bother trusting minella with their occasion as it’s clear the only thing they care about is taking the money. It’s overrated and honestly not worth your money when there are far better options all around in the area."
