Balancing openness to the exceptional views against the imperative for shelter from the elements on the exposed hilltop, Mansfield House is a home of two halves.The building responds to the dichotomous demands of inhabiting a place inhospitable and awe-inspiring in equal measure.The spaceMansfield House presents a panoramic view across the rugged and expansive landscape of Taungurung country – this terrain and its unruly weather conditions are formative to the home’s design. The north-facing half of the house features double-glazed, floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, framing the most exquisite views. “To the east is Mount Buller, and then to the west you get these crazy sunsets and when the lake’s full you get to see [Lake] Eildon,” Robbie explains. A concerted effort was made to privilege the vast scenery with minimal obstruction from the building.The house has a Master bedroom and ensuite, with stunning Mt Buller views. Riverdell Cottage is a cosy, peaceful and well-equipped 3 bedroom home that provides a perfect base for your next holiday. It is ideally located; nestled among trees and with a north-facing open deck to view the nearby hills, Riverdell is an easy 4 minute drive to the entrance of Mount Buller. Riverdell Cottage is ideal for a large family or a couple of smaller families as it accommodates 8 people (or up to 10 people with the use of the double sofa bed in the lounge; extra charge). The two main bedrooms (one with a full ensuite) each have a queen bed with electric blankets, the third bedroom has two sturdy bunk beds. A short walk will take you down to the River so you can cool down on a hot day or even try your hand at fishing. There is plenty to do in every season; enjoy snow sports atop Mt Buller, engage in mountain biking - including the Australian Alpine Epic Trail - all over Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, explore the many hiking trails and historic huts in the area, visit the Mirimbah park and playground, and explore the high country via 4 wheel driving, horse back, or dirt biking. Bustling Mansfield is also less than 20 minutes away.
