Myself and my friend were drawn to the Palace Hotel for its competitive price and location - both of which could not be faulted. Very inexpensive and centrally located in Buxton next to the train station and local shops all within a five minute walk easily.
However, without a doubt, you get what you pay for. Whilst the room looked perfectly clean and functional on arrival, both my friend and I awoke after the first night with sore backs. The beds are cheap and unsupportive. The shower is basic and paltry in its water flow. For a one night stay, it’s fine, but don’t expect luxury.
The biggest warning we need to issue pertains to the gym. Unless you are a local Buxton male, you won’t feel comfortable here - I couldn’t use one room as there was loud rowdy discussion between men ongoing in a very confined space which made me feel totally unwelcome. I retreated to a different room, also very small and very unclean, with dirt and dust and flakes surrounding the windows and ripped mats on the floor. See photos attached. My friend used the pool which he also described as dirty and he had to take all of his belongings with him into the sauna as the lockers had no locks or keys, rendering them obsolete. The fact that people pay a monthly membership fee to attend this gym is genuinely astounding.
Overall, cheap, mildly cheerful, suitable for a night or two basic stay but do not expect luxury from this hotel.
Stayed in this hotel as we are visiting the Chatsworth House the next day. Unfortunately we had a penalty charge for stopping our car at the front of the hotel for only 2 mins to off load luggage. It would be better if the hotel mention this before we check in.
Best Western Plus Buxton Hotel
Stayed here for one night during my Peak District trip. The hotel is very well located, right in the centre of Buxton and close to the Pavilion Gardens, bus stops, and walking routes. The room was clean, comfortable, and warm — perfect after a long day of hiking. Staff were polite and helpful, and the overall experience was smooth and hassle-free. A solid choice if you’re exploring Buxton and the Peak District using public transport.
If you want a budget hotel this fits the bill. The room was clean bed very comfortable - extra pillows in the wardrobe and tea and coffee making facilities - Just of M1 - so if you are travelling very convenient. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked - good value. Staff were very polite and welcoming and will definitely stay again
The hotel is well located with Maccies next door and other shops. The room was tidy but the bed sheets didn't seem to be fresh. The bathroom had a faulty shower head and a cracked floor tile. Staff were present and friendly, quiet at night. Overall it's not to bad for the price you pay.
friendly and helpful, going out of their way to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel itself is well-maintained and clean, with modern amenities and comfortable rooms. The location is also excellent, being conveniently located near attractions and restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great value and an enjoyable stay in [Location].

ゲゲストWe stayed for 1 night for a special occasion. On arrival we were told that the spa was closed for an event which was very disappointing as I booked this hotel because of the spa & had planned to use the pool & sauna. This should gave been communicated at the time of booking. The building and grounds were impressive but on arrival our featured superior room was freezing cold. The reception turned on the heating at our request but this should have been done hours before our arrival given that it was 8 degrees outside. We sat for an hour in the room with our coats on before asking for a portable heater due to the radiators being only lukewarm. The room never really got warm & when we came back from dinner at 9.15 the heating had been turned off again & we had to ask for it to be turned on again. The food in the restaurant was very good & the servers were lovely but unorganised. We planned to have a drink in the hotel bar but it was so cold that it was empty and not comfortable to stay. I heard kore than one staff member complain about the cold in the hotel. What could have been a very pleasant stay was spoiled by the cold. Unfortunately, we will not return.
ゲゲストWe stayed at the hotel following a wedding. The hotel itself is beautiful and the food was delicious. The room was spacious and clean. There were some areas that were quite tired looking and items in the room that did not work such as the fan. The main issue with the room was a very strong smell that seemed to be from the sewage. The communication from staff was very poor. Overall I expected a lot better especially with the price of the room.
ゲゲストPretty good overall for what we paid. Great location. Room was adequate. Bed was a small double and pillows not amazing but shower was excellent. Overall clean. Service can be a little slow so online check in may be a good option.
